I'v data log my oil pressure many times through Cal Speedway's long banked T1-T2. 18 degrees of banking and I'm on slicks and flat out at around 152 in 5th entering the turns. I have the X51 oil pan only and I see only a slight drop in pressure. I see more of a drop hitting the brakes hard on a flat track from anywhere above 100mph. I now keep the revs up as I downshift...

Odd. I've done more than a fair share of DEs on my car over the 8 years and never an issue. I do have an X51 oil pan for a last couple of years, but I also make sure the oil level is always at the top during the course of an event and it almost requires some topping off between 2 days.

Sorry to hear about the attrition.

Well, I did not imagine it although to be fair oil is halfway on dipstick and on gauge, maybe top of the range is what's required then.

Does you car smoke when you start it back up after a hard run on the track?

Mine does for about 3-5 seconds and I've been told this can be minimized if I run it with a little less oil. Just curious as to what you see on yours?

Fernando, mine used to smoke after start up also. Replace your AOS when you can. I found that if I did a long cool down or let motor idle for a few minutes after a session I wouldnt smoke as much.

After installing new AOS I have no smoke whatsoever.

I would love any more information on the "oil pressure in the turns" thing. I've watched many 996s during DEs/track sessions and the gauge(s) do dip down to 2-3bar in turns almost regardless of RPM. I don't know the significance of this, or what causes it?

RE: Smoking at start up after track sessions. I've seen several 996s do this and many that don't. I find the failing AOS a plausible explanation but didn't try that.

I will be digging in soonish and will keep you all posted on the findings. I picked up a 3.4 leftover from a 3.6 swap today.... I will do my best to treat that car right.

I'm going to go crazy from the waiting! I hate the empty spot in my garage.
