Default Spring cleaning

It's that time of the year again to freshen up the 911 and clean the soft top.

This year I gave the soft top an extra deep cleaning because it has been about 8 years since I gave did anything with the top and it was starting to look extra dingy. Those of you that have the Grey top know what a pain it is to keep it looking good.

I made a gallon solution of 1 part Spray and Wash laundry detergent, 1 part cleaner/degreaser, and 3 parts water. I applied it with a wash rag, and rubbed it in firmly but not too hard and let it set for about 10 minutes, keeping everything wet.

Then I used a low pressure nozzle on the pressure washer to rinse it off. I then let the top dry for 2 days, and am now giving it 3 coats of RaggTopp fabric top protectant.

After I had rinsed off the top and let it dry, the result was like night and day. The top looked just like new again. The RaggTopp gives a nice sheen to the fabric, and makes it look fantastic.

One caveat on my top cleaning concoction, it is pretty strong, and if you get it on the paint, it will strip off the wax or Rejex immediately. Be prepared to polish and re-coat the paint after cleaning the top. It won't hurt the paint, it will just clean it of all materials that is on it, especially wax!

To avoid getting the Raggtop on the paint, don't spray it, use a foam brush. And don't skimp, goober it on. More is more.

And as always... That Orient Red Metallic is awesome

Any ideas on how relatively rare it was? It was the standard red metallic for a couple of years, but that was the height of gray, black, and dark blue Porsches. I had a heck of a time finding a Guards Red car, which was what my wife wanted. Then I stumbled on the Orient coupe. Everyone remarks on what a beautiful color it is.

I don't know the exact number of 2002s produced in Orient Red, but I'm pretty sure that it is a 1% color. I don't think I have ever seen a used one for sale.

When I ordered my car, it was a $4K option.

I've seen one Boxster in Orient, and no other Carreras. Interestingly, Toyota has a very similar color that I nearly bought a 4Runner in until my wife noted that matching red cars was a bit much.
