But I don't think there is a slip ring with enough connections.

I know I gave up! But in some ways that was good because I made my own and mine match the interior!.
Like I said I really disagree with previous opinions and reckon the Amg ones would fit.
Possibly the Audi TT paddles too ,But they are quite wide.

To mount the paddles, we had to drill holes through leather and plastic. We probed the backside where paddles would be mounted with a needle to make sure there are no structural parts in the way. Once we mounted the paddles, the steering wheel was put back in place. Figured out which Tiptronic wires were for up/down shifts, then tapped on to them. Tiptronic buttons were not disconnected and are still functioning. They can easily be disconnected at any time. Strangely, using paddles forces hands to stay on the rim. I have not touched the Tiptronic buttons accidentally since the paddles were installed, hence no reason to disconnect. There is plenty of clearance in the back between the paddles and stalks. The angle that the paddles are installed may look strange in the photo but it works beautifully with a little curvature that hooks on to the fingertip.
The entire mod took us about 45 min. Any competent mechanic should be able to do it. I would do this again if I get another 996.
If you are interested, send me a message and I'll give you more details on the paddles.
