For a daily/track car/"beater": 996 Turbo

For an "investment" vehicle/weekend toy: 993

I agree with the above. The 996 are better cars to drive and are faster. If you are looking for a show piece or an investment there is more potential with the 993.

The 993 is great looking. One of the best looking cars ever IMO. So is the 67 Stingray and the 72 Cutlass 442. However the 996TT isn't chopped liver in the looks dept. I admit the headlights could be better, but the rest of the lines are brilliant.

Again, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish with the purchase. Both are great cars. It just depends on what you want out of it.

ALL of these answers are pretty much telling you the SAME thing, so have you got the idea yet?

My bro in law had a 993 c4s. Beauty of a car, but noisy, rougher riding, rattling, old feeling compared to a 996. Depends on what you like I guess. Classic air cooled or modern and faster.

I have chosen!

Have you driven both Porsches? It would boil down to which car I prefeered... handling wise, power available, looks, usability, condition and price.

I have had both. the 993 is smaller and tighter - you wear it, not drive it.
however, once the secondary air system clogs up, you will appreciate the 996.

if you get a 996, make sure it has an updated IMS bearing (LN engineering) it will give you peace of mind when you drive.

just my $.02

Get a faster aircooled and have not heard many issues with SAI problems on a air cooled turbo.

You want an investment 911, you can do better than the 993 as well, look for old 912's etc. 996TT for fun and value holding and drive and forget good times.

Make sure you spend some time behind the wheel of a 993 before you choose one. The (lack of) ergonomics can be annoying. They made compromises to the driving/seating positions that are surprising for a "driver's car."
