Question Torque Pro OBD II Tool

I found a really nice looking OBD II app on the Android Market called "Torque Pro" (see here). For it to work, you have to buy a Bluetooth OBD II adapter, like the first one listed HERE from Scantool. Has anyone tried this setup with their 996? Torque Pro's site doesn't specifically say that it'll work with any Porsche, and I'd like to get some confirmation before spending $250 on the OBD II adapter.

Thanks!

Many people say it works fine. Even with using the 18 dollar adapter, as long as you get a good one. The more expensive adapters are just faster and maybe a little more reliable.

I can confirm torque pro works with the orange cheap adaptor I got from eBay (the last one in your link) It was $20 something shipped.

Found it. This was the exact item and seller i bought from http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...RS%3A1123#shId

Does Torque Pro have the same capabilities of a handheld OBD reader, or even better, the Durametric?

It is more in the generic OBD II Reader category. It can not do what Durametric software can do nor does it come close to Porsche PST2 or PIWIS testers.

It is however a very handy tool that you can carry with you and get basic information on problems/performance - IMHO of course.

Would this tool also reset the airbag light?

Sorry, no it won't. You would need Durametric software, a Porsche PST2, or Porsche PIWIS tester to reset the airbag.

I've been using Torque and a cheap bluetooth OBDII for about a year now, and it's awesome for troubleshooting. Not just clearing CEL codes, but getting real-time data from the computer and plotting/recording it: rpm, throttle position, engine load, MAF, fuel ratio, O2 sensor data, etc. Turns your cell phone into something straight out of fast & the furious.

I've also used it with Toyotas and Mazdas, and not all data is available on every car, but it does work very well with 986/996.

Just got mine in today. See the attachment for the OBD2 sensors that are supported (on my 2004 996).

I soldered an on/off switch into mine last night so I can leave it plugged into the car without draining the battery.

Really? You think it would drain that much juice?
