Leather and aluminum-look steering wheel cracked...
Unfortunately, the Porsche OEM steering wheel that I installed in February of 2011 has "cracked" in the aluminum-look portion. This is very frustrating. I've been very happy with the product, until now. I contacted the seller (a Porsche dealer) to see if they can help. I would expect that there is some kind of warranty, but I'm not sure. I still have my old leather steering wheel, so I may have it recovered and reinstall it. We'll see if the dealer can do anything with Porsche. When I bought it, it was the only one available in the US. I suspect they'll have to order another from Germany if they are able to replace it for me.

Three Wheelin'
OEM Porsche parts have a warranty of 2 years. I believe all tequipment parts have the same warranty. Porsche should come through on this and replace it.
That's not a cheap wheel, suprised that happened.

I just heard back from Sunset Imports in Oregon, where I bought the product. There is a two year, unlimited mileage warranty on Porsche Tequipment parts. My local dealer can replace it. I'm headed to my dealer today to order the replacement!

I have no idea. The car is garaged, so I can't imagine it cracked because of sun exposure. I'm really not sure why it happened. FWIW, the leather and wood steering wheel in our Cayenne still looks perfect after 8 years of use...

It has been a long time, but the new leather and aluminum-look steering wheel was installed today under warranty at Prestige Imports in Denver. Yes... it really took that long. Apparently there were none of them to be had anywhere in the world in aluminum-look and natural brown leather. A new one had to be made by the vendor in Germany. In any case, it's here and it's installed and I'm a happy camper!

My guess was the defective wheel was made by a "vendor" for Porsche Tequipment and unfortunately was made poorly. good to hear P got you a new SW. Just keep an eye on it for any signs of poor craftsmanship.
