Default 996 C4S: Best place to purschase brake pads.

I have some pagid orange (I think) on my C4S. I got these for tracking and I didn't do much of it last year and not planning to track much this year either. Tired of the squealing...planning to finally make my 03 a daily driver and switch the pads.

It's been a loooooooooooooong time since I've been here in this forum.

I am looking for the best source for cheap OEM brake pads (I remember some dealers sell for much less, I think suncoast was one?????).

Also, I got some pagid sports in the past which were pretty much equivalent to OEM, and did not squeal.

Please advice on the cheapest source for OEM, or if anyone is aware of pagid sports or any other pads equivalent to OEM please advice.

Thank you

I've used Suncoast Parts, Sunset Imports and Pelican Parts over the years for OEM parts. They are all good.

Any reason not to use Textar pads - 1/2 price of OEM and OEM manufacturer ? (I'm sure Porsche buys parts from these guys and just marks up to make their gross margin targets). Does anyone have positive or negative experience with Textar ?

Also, is rotor change done by everyone at each pad change - or do you measure rotor thickness and then decide ? Any positiive experience with Balo, Zimmerman or other non-OEM rotor ? I'm getting close to doing my brakes and give price delta to OEM want to understand if there is really that much difference - I'm not planning to be stropping from 175MPH on the autobahn in the wet ....

Really? Mine don't. I have purchased several sets from Pelican. Street and track use.

I have always also put in new dampers. I may try reusing the ones on the front next time.

By any chance has anyone slung the anti squeal sticky things (dampers) from the back of the original Factory pads? I was told to leave them off but figured they were there for a good reason. I was told to sling them by a guy at Pelican parts who tracks his car. His car squealed, but who the hell cares on the tracks. Mine is a DD and I havn't taken it to a track as yet. I managed to remove my anti squeal backings from the old pads AFTER I removed the caliper to get the pads free. Believe me the pads will not come out with the backing unless the caliper is removed. There was enough goo to stick the old dampers to the back of the new pads and I haven't had a squeal. When the pads got warm they restick the goo to the new pads. I used Pelican Parts for my OEM textars and they do NOT squeal. I have done 3000 miles since I changed them and I can stop on a dime. I also changed the wear sensors and did not Tie the old ones back with electrical tie wraps as some lazy DIY people advertize on doing. I figured they were there for a good reason as well. I think the whole job cost less than $300 DIY.

DCP I did use the old dampers. I removed them carefully with a broad wood chisel.

Yes, Ive used them and they are similiar in performance as OEM but they squeeled till the end of their usefulness. After tracking they were quiet for a week or two but low speed braking was noisy. Yes, i used dampers also.

Now im on OEM with no dampers and the brakes are totally quiet.
