Default 2004 C4S - Rear Spoiler Noise

Team, first of all I apologize if I missed something in my search for a remedy but when I raise my rear spoiler manually (using the button by the fuses) - in order to clean the spoiler wall and surrounding areas - there is a noise - like a low groan and almost sounds like the mechanism is tight and could use some lubrication.

Is there a proven and accepted method for lubricating the area? I would like to roubleshoot this before I blindly go out and blindly a new motor (as other posts would suggest).

I seen references to WD-40, lithium grease, and other methods and I now have a diagram of the wing components so I am good there.

If this has been covered in detail somewhere else, please let me know.

All advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

Jamie

If the "noise" is like a sigh, it is normal.

Definitely not a sigh. It sounds like loud rubbing of parts. I'll have my wife push the button later so maybe I can pinpoint moree specifically where the sound is coming from within the wing. Thanks!

You might try rubbing some vaseline on the rubber parts (sparingly though) as the manual recommends for winter.

My C4S had more of a "squwaking" noise at top of the spoiler travel. The dealer who did the PPI quoted me $550.00 to repair but I passed. My local dealer lubricated something, not sure what, but they used what looked like a white lithium grease, the problem has been gone for 4 months and 6,500 miles.

This thread is way to sexy for me at my age.

more of a "squawking" noise at top.

And then getting someone to lubricate something (not sure what) with lithium grease

I mean what is going on here guys.? lol....

Okay, all sexual overtones aside. The wifey raised the wing while I listened closely and it is the plastic arms (hinges I believe) on both sides of the wing rubbing against the plastic housing that they slide in and out of. You can actually see the subtle scrapes on both hinges from it rubbing. I will try the lithium grease and check back in. Awesome!

Thanks all!

Paste wax. Lubes without attracting and holding abrasive dirt bits. Or a little PTFE spray lube.

That is what fixed my rubbing noise same place and I did use lith grease. There are little drain holes in the ends of those black banana shaped covers spray in there they will dribble out for a while just wipe it away. Spray operate several times noise gone then wipe away ALL excess its been about 7 months. I now have squeeling noise from the drivers side cab wing and the fricken drivers seat when it retracts what the hell 100K $+ car and the damn thing squeals like a stuck pig. LOL

LOL! stuck pig...that was exactly the sound description I was looking for. Classic!

I will start with the lithium grease. I did some research last night and it sounded like it was the safest for the plastic on plastic applications. I have the Elmer's spray around the house. I use it for the door hinges.

Again, thanks all. Will follow up one more time when confirming the fix.

BTW...Vaseline is never a good idea to use with rubber products.

Thanks Gonzo. I actually read that too prior to using the Lithium Grease. The insight and support on this forum is well with the subscription price!
