Hi, I have the CDR 220 in my '01 C4 and I noticed that there is a phone option in the menu section on the head unit. I also see that our cars are equipped with microphones on our dashes (those round, perforated faceplates).

My questions are, can I hook up any cell phone to this radio? And if so, how would one go about doing that?

Not sure. There is a telephone(?) module in the center console under the dash, which may have the connections you need. My car came with an outdated cellphone cradle that I removed. It was plugged into the that module, but there was a separate aftermarket microphone that was routed in the trim above the driver side visor.
