Introduction - C4 Long in the Tooth
Been lurking for a couple of days, had visited this forum before but didn't have the urge to register. Awesome community you have here with a lot of helpful folks and great info. I didn't see an intro section; if I'm out of place posting this thread here I apologize.
Fell in love with the 911SC back in the 80's and only dreamt I could ever own one.
Had the opportunity to work on a few Porsches as a car stereo/alarm installer back in the college days. A car always near and dear to my heart, and I took good care and pride in my work every time I had my hands on it. Since I couldn't afford to own one I went the VW route (GTI, Corrado).
In 04 I was working my tail off and decided to treat myself and make the dream come true. Found a super clean 996 C4 and before the day was over she was mine. Only saw one other car the night before at a Porsche dealer before I pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did. The rest is history.
It's a 99. Got it with 18K miles back at the end of 04, daily driver commuter (70 miles round trip) now with 135K miles and long in the tooth but I love the car!
The way I've describe the experience of owning one is like being the luckiest kid in the amusement park, and never having to wait in line to get into the best ride. I've felt fortunate to have had the keys since then.
Anyhow... not to make this intro too long, I love the car. Work had been scarce the last couple of years with the economy and all... but as I've approached the fork on the road where I have to make a greater commitment I still love the car. This forum has promised to be a great resource moving forward. A lot of knowledge here!
I got here a couple days ago because of a P1341 code + learned about the dreadful IMS and RMS issues. Some things are better off unknown... Ignorance used to be bliss. If we have a chance to meet in the future and you see dark circles around my eyes due to sleep deprivation... You know why.
Thank you and I hope to learn a lot from all of you going forward even if I get flamed when "my search button fails" or if I ask stupid questions.

You know, with good maintenance and regular oil changes - and that many miles - I would guess that IMS is less of a concern at this point. Ugly things do happen, but far more cars are out there without failures that with. I think you should sleep soundly.
But... if you need a clutch anytime soon it would be worthwhile to upgrade the bearing.

Nice looking car. I've got a 99 Cab and I love it too. It's nice to hear stories about these cars with lots of miles and have been relatively trouble free. Continue to enjoy it.

Thank you for all the warm welcomes and compliments on the ride. I've taken the best care within the recommendations of my Indy. Once I get this p1341 code sorted out I'll feel a lot better... Next in line will be to get a new clutch and front brakes. I've been fortunate that the original set has lasted me this long (117K) but that's what FWY miles will do.
When I do the clutch the plan is to address the IMS/RMS and AOS and hope that everything else holds together. I feel like I have a great shell. If you guys have good suggestions and links to those who have done it before me please post it here or direct me elsewhere. I plan on using the search feature but as a neebie it is wise to ask.
Thank you in advance and glad to be here!!!
