Cosmoline Alternatives

I'm debating whether to re-apply cosmoline to my engine after I complete my rebuild. As of right now, the engine looks shiny brand new.
I understand that depending on where you live, Porsche replacement engines are typically installed without cosmoline.
I do occasionally drive in nasty rainy weather, perhaps a little road salt. If I do drive on salty roads I'll usually make it a habit to get under the car with a good spray down.
Instead of cosmoline, I've heard that POR-15 is a great product, as well as some high temp engine paints, but I've also read that a high temp clear lacquer works well (but can yellow like cosmo or gray the metal over time).
I'm not really trying to achieve concours quality looks, but then again.... I've spent a lot of time and money on this thing and I would like to keep it looking nice... not as clean as orient's car of course...

Logray, car looks very clean... No preference from me as far as cosmoline goes but i would like to know how you made your car "float" for this picture?
Good work on your rebuild.... My engine is being torn down right now due to a connecting rod failure. I wish I had the experience to rebuild it myself.

Yeah maybe you're right, I guess I would have to be sure to hose it down if any road salt gets on it.
By the way, MINE certainly does NOT look like orient's picture, but the engine is very clean. Yes I agree his is like art!
