HELP IM LOCKED OUT
Just got back in town from one week vacation, car ('99 996 Carrera 4) was parked and locked in garage, now she wont unlock with fob key and the door lock key wont manually open her either. It was recommended that I have her towed to dealer to unlock. Is that best remedy?? Help!

I'd try using the emergency wire cable to open the frunk, charge the battery on the car. See if that helps. The locks are power operated and a low battery may prevent them form unlocking. Use a battery if the car's not driven daily. These batteries discharge very fast.

Poke her in the rear she'll wake up!! Oh wait. I would call AAA and see if they can help. It seems odd that even if it was in "sleep" mode there should be a way to get it unlocked without the aid of battery power.

Manually unlocking it should wake it up unless the battery is dead.
Do the early 996 have the plus battery jumper contact in the engine compartment?
If so it may be easier to open the engine compartment than to go fishing for the frunk release. It is between the left rear light assy and the bumper.
If you use a soft wedge to open the seam a little you can see it coiled there and reach it with something thin; wire, steel pocket scale, small penknife...
Then jump it using the plus lug and the airfilter housing bolt to hook up the jumpers.

He says the key isn't unlocking the door besides the fob not working. If it's a model the needs the power to work the lock using the key then charging the battery by using the emergency pull cable to open the hood is the best bet. I know my door doesn't need power to unlock..........maybe

Lot of door locks don't work manually (they're never used) so nobody knows theirs doesn't work.
Everybody uses remotes and when car battery is dead remote won't open the door.
Getting power to the car via either trunk will not get car out of sleep mode, now it gets complicated.
