I'm a newbie to the 996 having just bought a 2000.

From reading this thread sounds like the Fabspeed X-Pipe and the Competition Air Intake combo is a good place to start if I want some extra HP. Correct?

I get it every now and then. usually after driving a long time and at very low rpm and not pushing it. I reset it and its fine.

That's because there is barely enough media, aka "brick" in there to do it's job. That's the main reason so many aftermarket converters only last a couple years. This is no unique to this company, almost all aftermarket catatalitics are made this way and that's why they are cheap too.

My car since I got it in 2003 has burnt out the original cats every 1.5 years. They were constantly replaced under warranty for 8 years.
I believe they couldn't take the amount of oil my engine burns with out getting tarred up and eventually getting so plugged up until I lost hp. The 8th year I waited for them to both go and then I had them replaced under warranty. I drove to my indy and replaced them with fabspeeds x-pipe which are less restrictive and they now sit in a box never to be installed again. I have had the fabspeeds on the car for 2.5 years now and I have no signs of any problems. I think because they are less restrictive their longevity on my car they will last longer. I've all ready gotten 1 year more out of them then the OEM ones.

Same thing happens for me too. If I shift into 6th gear at 2000 RPM it might come up. The error is usually get is a lean condition in one of the banks. But I checked the oxygen sensors and everything seems to be ok. So I just reset it and the car goes along without incident.

Doesn't happen too often and when it does it's around town if I am taking it too easy.

Well your case is unique. I would just replace the converters with bypass pipes and re install them a week before the emission testing is due. Your engine is clogging them so as you said, a free flowing one will take longer to clog.

thanks,
I have both and love them. Put the X-Pipe in about 2 year ago and then added the Comp Air Intake a year later. The combination is fantastic and both have performed flawlessly despite hard track use. I'm a fan.

Thanks for the feedback guys, your the best. Glad everyones enjoying them and PM me if you have any questions at all. And stay tuned for a few the new intake transformation on here. Were working on retro fitting the new GT3 style Dual cone competition intake for the 996 and 997.1 cars.
Thanks,
