1st snow of the year Will probably put my 01 cab up for the winter. Was wondering if it is better to put it up on jack stands or leave it on the floor and roll it around every week? The garage bay is flat. Have an extra set of 17" wheels that I was going to mount snow tires on but can't afford to buy any at this time. Probably better anyway since they coat our roads with mag cloride which is mixed with sand and small pea gravel. Great way to ruin paint and crack a windshield.
How long will it be up in storage? The stands sound pretty extreme. My Bridgestone RE050a's get flat spots in just a matter of a few days without driving...
If it were me I would take it out for a spin and get her up to temp on a few of those sunny warm days.
Would be my choice to drive. It might sit for extended periods depending on how much snow we get. They don't plow my road very frequently and the snow can pile up several feet. Lots of times my Pathfinder drags underneath to get out of here. I've even got it stuck in my driveway a few times. Winters at 8000' can be kind of harsh in CO. Was thinking that jackstands might take stress off of suspension. I did that with my racecar to keep the springs and shocks in good condition.
Don't store with the suspension unsprung. Over inflate the tires to about 55-58 PSI. Park in neutral. Don't set parking break. Roll the car about 8-12 inches the first Saturday of every month. The last month of hibernation, do it weekly. No issue with flatspots. Most modern tires, this is fully reversable with one good heat cycle in the spring.
I don't know.....but, last year I had some 2" styrofoam sitting around. I cut some 2' squares and rolled the car onto them. I also inflated the tires and extra 5 lbs. Seemed to work and will do it again this winter.
