Default CEL

The CEL popped up on my car yesterday when I was sitting in traffic on a hill. The car is running fine, no rough idle, no loss of power. I did install an IPD plenum a month ago. But I have put a few hundred miles on it since than. I cleared the code but I haven't had it out since. I purchased a durametric last night so I can check the code if the CEL comes back. Would sitting on the hill tripped anything?

It would have helped if you had noted and reported the error codes. To everyone, if you're going to bother to read the codes/clear them, at least write them down (do not trust your memory -- transpose one digit with another and the error can be the difference between a new MAF and a new engine... well, maybe. But you get the idea. No mistakes in writing down the error codes!)

Anyhow, unlikely sitting on the hill had anything to do with the CEL. Last thig touched is first thing suspected and the IPD plenum is suspect #1 in my opinion.

But there is another possibility...While the DME is not supposed to log any misfires when the fuel tank level is low, if sitting on the hill (a steep SF type hill) if this resulted in a momentary lack of sufficient fuel flow/pressure misfires might have been logged.

All you can do is continue to drive the car and next time -- if there is a next time (and if I'm right there will be a next time) -- capture the error codes.

In the meantime, if the engine exhibits any other symptoms, rough idling, noises, anything out of the ordinary, shut off the engine ASAP and get the car to a qualified pro for proper evaluation and repair.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Good advice, record the CEL code next time before you clear it so we can give you the error code explanation.
