HUGE difference and I am loving it no more row, row, row your boat shifting.
It is very notchy and shifts are precise and solid now feels like bolt action rifle.
If you are on the fence or have thought of doing it all I can say is DO IT!

I also, took the oppertunity to do ashtry delete with a body color painted ashtray delete to match my painted console (thanks go out to Eric @ bumperplugs.com)

Cool stuff. I actually have been looking into the 997 shifter
Where did you get the shifter from?

I did the standard 997 shifter which made a big difference over the 996. The 997 stock one tightened things up and shortened shifts a little. Bought one on ebay for about $80.

I think SunCoast sells them for $199.
I hope in the next few months I will do this mod. I had a Schnell short shifter on my Boxster and was not bad at all. It was only hard to engage when cold. Is this the same case on these shifters?

I got mine from Suncoast as well and I had my local indy install it. Cost me about $100 to install.

There is a difference between the 997 SSK and the 997 Gt3 shifters. One is about $200 and the other about $450. Both are a significant improvement over the 996 shifter. The 997 shift kit shortens throws about 20% and the Gt3 about 35%.

Under $400 @ Suncoast Parts.
The GT3 one has metal bushings vs. plastic in 996/997 standard shifter.
Throw is about 20% - 25% shorter and feels much notchier and smoother running through the gears.

I installed my 997 shifter this weekend. Pretty easy and much improved shifting from the old 996 shifter.
