Default autodimming mirror with homelink

I just completed my latest mod - installation of a new autodimming mirror with homelink. My C4S didn't come with the autodimming mirror from the factory, so this was a nice way to upgrade to that feature, plus add homelink. I hate having clutter in the car like garage door openers, and now that problem is solved! The installation was very easy, and Scott at www.radar-mirror.com was very helpful in helping me select the proper mirror and with the adapter necessary to fit it to the OEM Porsche mirror windshield button. I'm very pleased with the results. As you can see in the photo, i snapped a quick pic with my iPhone.

Thanks, I like it. I was considering doing the garage door opener mod, but I like the homelink option better. The mirror was $199, which is reasonable in my opinion - especially when you consider that it's autodimming too.

Did you have to change out the mounting tab on the back that attaches to the mirror or on the windshield? Looks nice..

The Porsche OEM mounting button for cars without the OEM autodimming mirror is a "twist on" or almost a bayonet-style mount. This aftermarket mirror uses a wedge-type mount that is common on domestic cars. I bought an adapter with the mirror that slides over the Porsche button and converts it to a wedge, allowing me to slide the mirror onto the button. Once it slides onto the wedge, there's a set screw in the front that secures it. It doesn't sit perfectly flush on the glass like the OEM mirror, but it isn't really noticable unless you are looking for it.

You wouldn't happen to have the part number for the adapter that goes on top of the Porsche bracket would you? Thanks

I don't. I bought it from radar-mirror.com for $15. It's a very simple little metal wedge.

Dennis, that is a nice mod. I don't have the homelink in mine and THIS will be a great upgrade.
Thanks for sharing

Looks great Dennis! Just sold my '08 MazdaSped3 which had the same kind of mirror, and I do misst in the 911.

Does it require power to be run to it or does it run off internal batteries?

The model that I installed requires hardwiring to the vehicle's power to operate. It's only three wires - ground, switched and unswitched. It was pretty simple.

I believe you can get all 3 of those connections from the upper light console anyway so not much trouble to install. Dennis, what was the model for the mirror itself? I could not find it listed on the radar.mirror site.

Dang, I should have asked Scott about this! I just installed the Audi auto dimmer that he re-glassed for me, but it doesn't have Homelink! Great, fast service from Scott, and the new auto dim glass he uses is faster and darker than the old mirror and NO fear of oil run off. Mine did the lava lamp thing but luckiliy only leaked on to the mirror itself, none ran on to the dash. It was $100 to have it re-glassed, I never thought to just get a new one with remote.
