Default My Oil Separator = FAIL

One question for those that have had this replaced, do you need to drop the engine on a manual transmission car? For some reason I recall you only needed to drop the engine on Tiptronic cars, and then get your legs waxed afterwards.

Thanks,
Rob

Well, your legs are already nicely waxed so you've got that going for you.

I read a post that one was able to change it without removing the transmission. It looked like a lot of work; he removed the entire intake manifold and attacked it from the engine compartment.

I believe that some have lowered their engines a few inches but did not have to drop the engine. Sould be several threads with the AOS replacement on the forum Riad. How many miles by now 115k?

That is correct. You can attack things from the topside but you will need to lower the engine slightly to give yourself more working room. This doesn't require actually removing the engine, just loosening the motor mount nuts.

If you search my name and this subject you should find my ordeal and I link another member's post that is a huge help. He basically did a step by step which was very helpful.

I just had mine done and the indie said they had to lower the trans. Makes me wonder though since they said that they had to do it since its a manual trans. Cost me $800.

Thanks Shawn. I did a search and found some examples, but it wasn't clear to me if they had to actually drop the trans or the engine... glad to hear it just has to be lowered.

You drop the engine a few inches. You remove the intake plenum, but you do not remove the engine.

Noob, do a search.

Manual (and that's not your gardener) doesn't require engine or trans removal. Like Kyle said, you do get some access by lowering the engine and trans together. It does take some time to do it the first time. If you need to do it again, it'll be a lot easier. Add an hour for you to be cautious of your manicure.

Good choice Riad, otherwise you'd need another manicure.

I can honestly say based on Hacker-Pschorr's post count.....

I no longer have a problem

Raid....you might consider removing the motor just to take some time away from the boards - not required, but awful fun
