Default Glove compartment retrofit for early 996?

Still can't believe Porsche would not have included a glove compartment for 996 until 2002 model year, I have not attempted to remove the lower cover below the passenger side airbag compartment of my 2000 to see if the space behind the cover is hollow.

Has anyone considered or attempted to fit a glove compartment from 2002+ 996 to the pre-2002 996? Is it even possible? i.e. airbag mechanism does not protrude below into that space behind the lower cover?

TIA

I thought Canadians always wear their gloves and don't need to store them.

Yes, glad you agree that Porsche failed in a big way for not providing a glove compartment like all other marques, truly a failure of major proportion.

Now is there another link that actually deals with if a glove compartment can be deviced?

Yes and most of us still live in igloos too, are there special curved shingles we can purchase and install to avoid the melt-down during summer time here? And how would we attach these compound curvature shingles?

It's August 20. I figured you guys would be shoveling and plowing by now.

Seriously, I think you would have to buy the whole dash for replacement. Cutting into your existing dash would require mad fabrication skillz.

you miss read my post... the "I fixed it" was the home made repair not Porsche's failure to provide cup holders and a place for food

The storage pockets in the doors are each larger than most glove compartments.

I did not misread your post, my posting was intended to be just as tongue in cheek as your initial response, I just figured a senior member with as many post as you have would have had a more constructive post.

Agreed, and perhaps that's why Porsche didn't initially put in a glove compartment, but they added it in 2002, must have recognized the demand for it.

I think the absence of a glove compartment was a major faux pas. Maybe they'll recall the dashboard when they do a recall on the IMS bearing.

Yes, this should be reported to the USAIB - United States Automobile Inconvenience Bureau.

We demand cupholders capable of supporting a big-gulp, and a cab top that can be closed at highway speeds if it starts to rain!
