Default Strange suspension noise...

Just this morning the C4S started making a strange noise. It only happens when turning, particularly at slow speeds. It takes a relatively sharp turn to make it happen, and it sounds like it's coming from the passenger's side front. It's a loud clunk. At first, it sounded like something in the trunk rolling back and forth and hitting the sides when I turned. There's nothing in my trunk. I just had my strut mounts and drop link bushings replaced earlier this year. What else could it be? Wheel bearing maybe?

wheel bearing is more like a grinding sound.

Have you checked to make sure the bushings are ok?

Sounds to me like you have a loose connection allowed something to pop when turning full lock

I'm going to have my mechanic check it out on Monday morning.

I think that's a good idea. I note the suspension/steering was worked on not too long ago and with a noise in that area... last thing touched has to be suspect.

Sincerely,

Macster.

My former bad wheel bearing did not make any clunking noise, but rather like worn, noisy tires going bad. GL with a fix Dennis.

Front driveshaft.
when CV-joint goes bad, it makes loud clunk noises, especially when turning.

I just had my front wheel bearings replaced. Not too expensive but had to get an alignment.

The noise was more of a squeaking sound when turning at low speeds.

GL with repair.

Just a thought Dennis, have you checked the wheel lugs on your front wheels?

+1 on CV joint. You are hitting 100K miles soon right?

I just rolled 104,000 miles. I actually did check the lug nuts - they were fine.

I was actually wondering about the possibility of the CV joint... it will be interesting to see what they find.

Do you mind me asking how much you paid in parts in labor for the front wheel bearings replacement?

per wheel. you have to be careful removing the bearing and pressing the new one in. Otherwise, its $800 for a new wheel carrier. Don't ask me how I know.
