I helped a very tall friend (I think he is 6'9") find a performance car a few years back. Not all tall is the same and he just could not get comfortable in a 996/997. Eventually he bought a C6 Corvette and fit fine. The lesson is that simply fitting is not the issue, but comfort and control.

Not be a Debbie Downer Griff........You need to be a sponsor to RL let alone a member to be selling your wares here. Good idea though.

Pac996, I love that photo. I will def be using that in a newsletter or blog posting.

Sneaky Pete, thank you for the heads up. I actually have emailed the Forum Admin and asked to be contacted in regards to a Full Membership or Sponsor Package. I would love to be apart of the Forum as an active member.

If you have any suggestions, please send me a PM.

I've sat in a 997 (a 2007 model, I think) and fit ok, except for the center console. However, I'd probably be looking at an older model, mostly due to cost. Do you have a recommendation (model, seat & mount) on the best set up for both legroom and headroom, either for a 996? Any idea how much space I'd gain from a modified setup?

Surely there are lots of NBA players out there driving Porsches - how do they do it? Are there shops that specialize in that kind of thing?

BTW, I currently drive a BMW 3-series sedan and fit fine in it, with the seat all the way down and back.

Any other tall-ies out there who could send me some suggestions?

Thanks,
Ross

Yes, those thin Corvette seat bottoms provide just enough "headroom", but watch out for those bumps in the road, that can HURT unless you bring along your own "padding".

Bumping an old thread, I'm 6'2" and my hair touches the headliner. I fit ok but would prefer about 3" lower for MY preferred seating position. I think part of the problem is I have power seats. I'm considering a Recaro Pole Position, but it seems it has to be mounted above the sliders. Anyone have experience with how much room I'd gain with that set up?

I MUST be doing something wrong! I have an 03 coupe. I'm 5'11" 32" inseam and am constantly thinking the seat is too far up...I pull it forward and push back against the rail stops..i could really use another 3" of rail length....I've got NO idea how anybody over 6' can drive this car...headroom is wonderful! can ANYONE help! I've gotten used to it, but anytime i'm in a 964 or 991, I feel much more comfortable

Maybe also a steering wheel extender? Mine created more room around/under the steering wheel and also brought it back to me when I removed the seat stops. I got mine direct from the Swedish manufacturer. It was very difficult they are not setup for international sales.
I think Gert has them again. He doesn't advertise them, you have to ask.

Not cheap:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...nder-55mm.html

"NAVO XTEND 55 steering wheel spacer. Part # 10 01 57 00 to fit all 993 and 996 airbag steering wheels. This moves the steering wheel 55mm (just over 2") closer to the driver while retaining the functionality of the airbag.

It is a very high quality Swedish made unit. It was used on my 993TT for less than a year and is in like new condition except for a couple of small nicks in the black outer trim housing. They could easily be touched up with paint or a black felt marker."

More info can be found here

There was the XSU option on 996's... Probably a rare find though.

XSU: Lowered Seats (-10 mm). Thinner seat cushion lowers seat by 10 mm to offer increased headroom. Includes padded head restraints.
Even rarer option would be 662 sunroof delete, also offering increased headroom.

652: Delete Sunroof
But pretty much any race shop could also install a lowered, fixed position seat exactly where you need it.

For me, raising the roof (no pun) would help a little but I'd prefer a lower seating position. I'll post over in racing and comp to see what gains are made by bucket seats and if those gains would still be substantial if I use rails.

@ 6'2" - I have a coupe (sunroof) and sometimes hit my head on the sunroof frame. More of my height is in my torso than my legs - I only have a 32" inseam - but with a helmet on, I could not fit in my 996 if I were any taller.

since this thread has come back from the dead, there is an accessory to extend the seat rails back further to give much more leg room
