Shot Down today.
I'm and old guy trying to get back in the game. Had many many nice cars over the years...last 911 was an '83SC back in '88 or so. My daily driver is a '04 Cayenne S...bought it new...its got over 112k and it's been bullet proof....but I digress. Through a Porsche DE guru I went and saw a lightly used '04 turbo cab man. (30k miles) that one of the guys owned...has several racers that occupy him so he thought he'd clear the corral by one...absolutely loaded sans x 50 package 110% maintence kind of owner...**** retentive. Dickered a bit but couldnt get on the same page...am I going to be able to buy an '04 turbo cab for less than $50k? I'd heard through lurking here on this board...that 996s prices were on death's door. A nice '04 turbo cab or an '02-'04 turbo coupe is my goal. I think they are nice cars... meant to be driven... and serviced... as required. I'm looking...anybody help?

Greg,
A little more searching here and on the Turbo forum should reveal more info on pricing for the cars you are looking for. Turbo's are a completely different animal than the 996 C2 and C4. Pricing for such is also a completely different animal. They do not necessarily work in lock step.
Turbo's and GT3's come from an entirely different mechanical lineage. As such, they have entirely different issues.
Turbo's and GT3's are far less available (I refuse to say the word "rare" as this implies something they are not).
And pricing in your area will get more to your liking as yet another winter approaches in a few months.
Good luck, and happy hunting!

I think you're going to have a tough time finding a 2004 996 Turbo Cabriolet (assuming you want low mileage) for under $50K. In fact, from everything I've been finding, the prices are more like in the mid-50s for a car in excellent condition. Most C4S Cabs in excellent condition seem to be going for the mid to high 40s and, like others have commented, the Turbo really is a different animal in the market. If you wait long enough, you might find that once in a lifetime opportunity. Hey, you never know. Best of luck!!

Paul Miller Porsche in NJ shows an '04 Turbo Cab w/48k miles, CPO, at 59k. I'd bet they would take something south of 59.
Private sale would likely get you something for less coin, but maybe not a CPO car (worth it).

I think 996 prices were on death's door last fall. They've been slowly creeping up since then.

If you're willing to take a high mileage Turbo cab or one in rough shape it's going to cut the price a bit....but unless the mileage is extremely high or its in really bad shape, I just wouldn't expect one to come across the sales block near or below $50K.

I think you could get an 04 tt cab for under 50. But you will have to look hard. I know there was one sold here in the bay area for 46k last month. I know because I went and looked at it, passed, and the guy ended up selling it a few weeks later. I also saw a (reputable non porsche) dealer advertising one in LA a couple of weeks ago for under 50. In fact I think there were 2 for sale down there. I did not look at them, but they seemed pretty good.. around 40k miles or so. Seems like the TT prices in LA are pretty low right now. From what 6SO members are telling me , prices bottomed out a few years ago and are slowly rising (or not depreciating so fast depending on how you look at it.) I ended up getting a coupe instead of the cab in the end, but there are cabs out there. they are few and far between unless you want to pay top dollar. A CPO car is going to give you good piece of mind, so maybe you wont mind paying an extra 5 or 10 grand for the car. Right now you cannot get a CPO older than an 04, which happens to be the first year of the TT cabs, so you are clearly pointed in the right direction.

Low to mid 50's would be a good price for a well maintained low mileage 04 Turbo cab. I bought mine in March for 53k with 48K miles on it. I doubt you'll find a nice one under 50, but you never know.
BTW. They didn't make the 996 cab in turbo trim until 04.
