Anything w/out mufflers is obnoxious, be kind to your poor neighbors that may not "enjoy" it like you do...

I had a chance to hear in person a 996 with the bypass pipes....definitely too loud for me.

I will modify 3.4 cans (Fister partial bypass). I really like the sound (although have not heard in person, only sound clips).

no sound clips will give you any idea how nice this really is...the only draw back (if there is one) is there is almost no noticable chance inside the cabin at cruise...but outside is a very nice change indeed! if you forget, drive thru some covered areas (tunnels, parking, between buildings) with the windows open...always remind yourself how nice they sound outside while saving your hearing inside

We had someone show up to a local autocross with bypass pipes on his 911. Even the car guys plugged their ears when he'd go by. Which we don't do for the snowmobile engine cars, the Radical, Vettes, Shelby Cobras, etc. Way too loud.

OTOH, it's not as loud as some of the hillclimb cars I've heard running open headers. And my ears are still ringing from the F1 race I went to years ago....

They are definitely loud, but come on they aren't as loud as a Harley as long as you still have catalytic converters. I'll admit that they annoy me when driving around town, but on the highway they're not bad and anywhere you get to stay on the gas some, like an autocross, they are AMAZING. And I only have $75 ebay ones, not the pricey Fabspeed ones. I do have another car I usually drive to work and I admit that if the 996 were being driven every day I would put the stock mufflers back on.

I have already been "spoken to" by the police officers at the base gate though.

IT'S NOT THAT LOUD REALLY. HUH? I'M SHOUTING? Oh, sorry.

I've been running my race car wide open. No cats, not mufflers. It's so loud, some racers even complain.

Just to be clear, should I use a plastic or metal bucket? Gas or electric trimmer?

That's because your cobra and vette had a nice rumble to them. You need to drive it more, if you don't i'm breaking into your garage to take it for a joy ride.

Again, it is no big deal for me. Car is not my daily driver and I have no issues with it. Granted, they are not for everyone...but works for me. Different strokes for different folks I do have the OEM cats on it also. Still, when you need to, you can go easy on the gas.
