Considering all of the electronic monitoring devices in our cars.
Is the DME smart enough and/or programmed to shut off the ignition if it senses a no oil level & pressure situation?

With no oil pressure will the cam chains immediately jump timing?

 

I think the oil loss is the end result of the catasrophic failure, not the cause. It's too late once once you've lost the oil, shut down or no.

 

If you bash the sump and crack it you could lose the oil before the engine is toast.

 

The mk2 cars will turn the instrument cluster red, display "low oil pressure" message, illuminate the oil pressure warning light and sound a beep. I don't think the DME will interrupt operation otherwise.

Think it would jump timing right away? Just speculating why frog's engine quit so abruptly when the oil ran out of the case.
