Default Reflections on first year of ownership

I'm coming up on the first anniversary with my 2000 C2 Tip Cab and I thought I'd sum up the year.

The purchase was based on complete ignorance (bliss included).
Bought the car because it looked cool (37k miles, highly optioned).
Test drove it, but no PPI.

Joined Rennlist and RennTech and did a lot of reading.
Swapped out the pumpkins for clear side-markers
Added Aluminum cluster rings
DYI oil/filter change
Replaced OEM filter canister with LN Spin-on filter
Replaced OEM oil drain plug with LN magnetic drain plug
Had LNE IMS upgrade installed, along with new RMS
X51 oil pan, and low temp thermostat
DIY TSB to improve distance of remote lock/unlock
DIY mod to allow convertible top to operate while moving
DIY mod to make side-markers flash with turn signals
Added iPod connection to OEM Becker radio
Installed FisterD's
Upgraded standard Halogen bulbs with Silverstars (whiter than OEM)

Edit: I forgot to mention the "More Cowbell" DIY - http://hubpages.com/hub/More-Cowbell...ur-Porsche-911

Observations:
Though I have not done any major mechanical work myself, I've found that this car is surprisingly easy to work on. Many interior and exterior pieces fit together like Lego Blocks.

There are some very smart people contributing to this forum and I am very grateful for their efforts.

These cars are very special and are a ridiculously good bargain.

I love the car more now than I did the day I bought it.

If you park the car in an empty lot on the moon, there will be cars on both sides of it when you return.

We go out for a drive on nice evenings. No destination, just for a chance to experience the car.

I have never been a speeder, but the car loves to go. I was doing some normal in-traffic driving and the temp gauge was on the right side of the "0" in "180". I turned onto a relatively deserted parkway and hit it...over 6 grand, FisterD's wailing. Temp gauge is happily on the "8".

The car has a stealth installed V1 and K40 diffuser, (display is in the mirror, I have no idea where the units are). I didn't think I would ever use them, but I've found them to be a necessity because this car demands spirited driving.

I thought I was buying a car, but what I bought was an obsession.

To prospective new-owners:
Do as much research as you can stand.
Get a PPI.
Be prepared for a new hobby/obsession.
Drive it like your red-headed stepson borrowed it from a rented mule.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Nice, I am kinda in the same boat - bought bout a year ago.
I did get a PPI - actually two.
Thinking about the IMS upgrade now.
A car never made me smile as much.
But - I love my pumpkins...
Thanks for the reflections.

Brian - I like the pumpkins on black and silver cars. Just didn't look right on my Rainforest Green Metalic.

Chaos - The side-marker mod is on RennTech.org. When the parking and headlights are off, the side-markers flash in unison with the turn signals. When the parking or headlights are on, they blink alternately with the signals. The normal functioning is unaffected (off normally, on steady with parking and headlights). Personally, I think this is an important safety mod - don't know why it wasn't done by design.

MJB - I had the double-row bearing. The indy who did the job said the old one looked fine, but I have no regrets about having the job done.

Nice write up. Glad to hear that in spite of the pre-purchase "ignorance" you still have the "bliss." I was thinking about my own situation(similar pre purchase ignorance) and realized it's been a little over 5 years since I first picked mine up. Where'd the time go?
