I've been searching for hours but haven't seen a problem quit like mine...
When I lower the top on my cab, the clamshell opens, the top lowers, but then the clamshell won't close. I hear the motor for a few seconds, the clamshell doesn't move and then the top light on the dash flashes.
Here's where it seems to get strange. When I put the top back up, everything works perfectly and the clamshell closes and latches.
Normally a switch/sensor is what tells a system like that when the top has completed it retraction and the clamshell can close then. So wiring and sensor or switch involved would be what I'd go after.
Page 397-399 in the 996_USA_KATALOG shows microswitches involved with the top. Then there is the wiring. If the switch or bracket is loose that's a clue.
check to make sure the headlinner is not hanging up on one of the little wings that flip open next to the clamshell. My headliner came loose from the frame in the rear and would catch the little wing when top was opening, stopping it from fully retracting. I had to reglue the velcro strips to the frame to remedy.
Thanks for the responses, guys. I didn't have much time to mess with it today, but here's what I did learn...
When I put the top down, it gets to the point where the little wings are supposed to rotate to horizontal, but the don't; they stay vertical and the dash light begins to flash. Then, if I hit the top down button again, the wings rotate as intended and the clamshell closes just fine. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
