Default Air pressure release noise from gas tank after complete fill up?

Hey Guys,

I've noticed every time I fill up my tank... The nozzle clicks meaning it's full, and I pull it out and then I hear some of the air pressure build up hiss out for about 2 seconds, then I tighten the fuel cap and go pay inside.

Last night I filled up and I pulled the nozzle out and decided to try to leave the fuel cap off to eliminate ALL the air and go pay and then come back and tighten it.

So I paid and came back to tighten the cap and noticed it over-flowed and was leaking slowly through the drain pipe. I let it drain for about 3 minutes till it was hardly draining anymore but decided to just tighten the cap even if it wasn't fully done.

1. I find it weird how the nozzle stopped indicating that the tank was full.

2. I find it weird that I have air pressure build-up in the tank and it always hisses for 2 seconds when I pull out (No Dirty Thoughts).

I always hear the hissing after I pull out and tight the cap right after, I'm wondering if it would do this every time but I never actually gave it time to spill out... ?

Not sure what's going on here?

Mine does the same thing. I've also noticed that once the pump stops, my tank is as full as it's going to get. If I try to squeeze in a little more gas, it overflows.

Faulty stop valve at the pump maybe? I know a bit of air pressure is normal... but if seaping out slowly is not, it's as if I over-filled the tank...

I'll try filling up at a different gas station next time and see if it occurs.

I always stop and never try to put more after it clicks...

Why do you fill it all the way to the brim? You should let the pump autostop.

Default Fuel Filler

Totally normal. If you place your finger in the opening and push the round disc, you will hear a click when fully opened. This releases the prssure and allows fuel to flow into the tank. When you clsoe the disk, that is when you hear the air noise and fuel cannot enter the tank.

Read my post right above. I always stop when I hear the click.

Newer cars have a dedicated air pump powered 24/7 to pressurize the fuel system.
