Guys, Going to put new front wheels on my 996. Noticed the previous (and unresponsive) owner did not include the wheel lock key. The nearest dealership is about nearly 100 miles away. Not interested in wasting a day at the dealership on yet another idiotic Porsche pseudo-security gizmo. Few related questions:
Option #1: Does anyone know if the wheel lock code number is available anywhere in the car (stickered etc...) so I can order one on-line?
Option #2: The helpful local tire retailer says they can break the wheel lock and I can replace with a standard bolt or new locked set if I can prove ownership and buy the tires from them. Has anyone done this and to what effect?
Option #3: Brilliant idea that someone on the board has.
experienced option #2... they have a gizmo with teeth that will grab the lock and will render it junk once it is off. I like this option.... I got rid of mine since it sit in the garage. You can buy new lug bolts from wheel enhancement
when destroying the lock be sure not to desroy the painted wheel surface around the lock and just destroy the thing... they are not worth the headache....

Mine was also missing and I looked at the option list sticker under the hood and the delivering dealer had hand written the radio code and locking lug number on it. Worth a look and maybe if not there you should add it.
I've always had good luck welding spare nuts onto the lugnuts and then putting a wrench on there. If you're going that route, make sure you've got a wet rag to keep excessive heat off the wheel.
