Default Happy Birthday to me....

Well its official, I am in the 996 club now. I did everything you are not suppose to do when buying a 996 and really rolled the dice....and (so far) its worked out.

Our transported dropped it off at PMS yesterday at 2 so I had the longest 3.5 hours of my life to get it on the lift and dig into it and do a full PPI. Other than some small stuff (really small for me $$$) it looks really good. Never has been in a wreck, the engine is dry, no type II overrevs and all fuel mixture number are right on, tracks straight with no funny noises, the hood has some rash and the bumper and tail need to be repainted. I am going to put in 2-4K into it in parts (my cost) and it will be a great with zero worries.

I will tell you I was really scared of this deal, but it worked out (knock on wood) and even if there was a big problem at $18K I couldn't loose big. Its been a good bday!

Oh and the Carrera turned out to just be a sticker so the orange is going bye bye.
I am excited!
Scott

Looks great! I would keep the script but that's me. Without it the side mirrors and wheels would look out of place. Enjoy the car! Oh....and it would look good as is if it were lowered.

Thanks! Oh those are going to be a set of track wheels and I can have our painter paint the mirroirs no problem. I got to get the wheels first. I got a set of PSS9's sitting in my garage ready to go, I just need GT3 sways and lower control arms.

LOL I love that the car has heated seats, like I am ever going to use them.

keep the orange.... in fact, run another line on the front and rear bumper to balance the look RS style. Have fun with it for awhile.... when you get sick of it, peel it off and slap on the new set of wheels. Bam.... brand new look overnight.

BTW: I was driving the other day, my pss9 set to full stiff, my PSE set to loud, sway bar set to full stiff..... man, it almost feel aircooled. Now im contemplating if I should put the RS mounts on.... Who said the 996 does not feel raw. At some point it felt a bit rough.... I must be getting old.

I was looking at that full 997 exhaust system someone is selling for $200... thinking, hmmmm those 997S headers might quiet my exhaust a bit. I hope this midlife thing passes.... I gotta get to a DE quick.

Scott, congratulations on a great deal. For what it's worth, I like the orange accents also. How does it compare to the 930?

Looking good. I'd paint the front bumper upper air dam and wing blade tips orange.

Thanks guys! The car has 85k miles. So far its running great. Yeah the orange is going to stay for a little bit. The tail and bumper need to be painted but I know a guy I am going to planning on adding the following:

RMS
IMS bearing
AOS
Oil/water cooler (leaking alittle)
Water pump
Third rad.
clutch, flywheel, PP
GT3 sways, tarret drop links, lower control arms
Plugs/ coils
All fluids and filters.
I might clean and match the injectors too

Good question about the difference between the difference of the 930 to the 996. The first thing you would notice is the difference in throttle response. The 996 is right now the 930 if not at the right RPM's in not. The steering feel is much worse in the 996. This is the only thing I don't like about our spec Boxster, nothing drives like an aircooled. As far as a more every day driver the 996 wins hands down. Its been a while since I have driven a mkII on the track so I forget details, its got plenty of TQ. I don't plan going crazy with this car, I don't need another full track car. We are going to take it for a big drive tomorrow so I will report back.

We took it out to dinner and I got a lot of looks. I kinda feel lame that it looks like a GT3RS, I know 99% of people don't know the difference but I do....

Thanks again

Congrats Scott car looks great. I like the orange script as well as few other members mentioned. Curious what year is the car? I'm kinda in the same boat right now and new to the 996 world. We picked up something similar for my wife (she wants to sell her Boxster), for about half what you paid (needed some body work) and doing a GT3 MKII on it as well (she loves the MKII look). You definitely got yourself a nice car!
