Take a week day (towards end of week) fly and drive! I did it once - not on my 996 - (only 400 miles) and loved it!!! You really bond with the car. Do it!!!

Not sure what i should do. I would love to drive the car back, but that amount of miles and time might be worth $1,000.
I didn't even fly out to see mine. Got a PPI, some pics and had it shipped in.

If the weather is good, drive it home. If you have the time, spread the trip out over three or four days.

Fly out to New York, do a two-day track event at Watkins Glen, sharing the car with the previous owner. Drive back to Iowa. I'm leaving for NY Friday morning!

That's what I'd recommend.^^^^^^^

Well it makes sense in a way. He would have to visually approve the car to give the OK on it. Then he fly's back and has the car shipped back.

Baller.

I guess I'm the only guy in support of shipping.
I shipped my car last year with a no name (i.e. lowest bidder type) transport company that my dealer arranged. It was not a good experience.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...delivered.html
Having said that, I would ship again, but I would use a reputable company. For me, the long drive was too much time away from family and kids. Paying to transport it was worth it for me. I just used the wrong carrier initially.

Intercity is one of the more expensive ones. You could consider looking for a non enclosed carrier if you're hoping to save some money. That's what I ultimately did. Good luck!

When I found mine in Virginia, I drove 275 miles to see it, had a PPI.
Following weekend drove with a friend, and drove my new to me Porsche back home.
Loved every mile....

I'd fly out and see the car (don't forget to get a PPI!) and if the car passes muster buy it and drive it back, taking the LONG way home.

Sincerely,

Macster.
