Drove my 996 Cab home 1482 miles :-)
Drove wife's Lexus home 1650 miles :-)
Drove my 996 Turbo Home 430 miles :-( just getting comfortable and I was home
Take a week day (towards end of week) fly and drive! I did it once - not on my 996 - (only 400 miles) and loved it!!! You really bond with the car. Do it!!!
What would you do and why?
If you bought a 996 that was over 1500 miles away would you rather
a). Fly out and see the car, buy it and drive it back (approx. cost $700)
or
b). Fly out and see the car and then have Intercity deliver it to you? ($1700)
Not sure what i should do. I would love to drive the car back, but that amount of miles and time might be worth $1,000.
I didn't even fly out to see mine. Got a PPI, some pics and had it shipped in.
flew to Ga.... drove through the blue mountains and took the long way home to NJ. Great experience, If this is you first P-car and you like to drive.... its a no brainer.
Fly out to New York, do a two-day track event at Watkins Glen, sharing the car with the previous owner. Drive back to Iowa. I'm leaving for NY Friday morning!
That's what I'd recommend.^^^^^^^

I guess I'm the only guy in support of shipping.
I shipped my car last year with a no name (i.e. lowest bidder type) transport company that my dealer arranged. It was not a good experience. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...delivered.html
Having said that, I would ship again, but I would use a reputable company. For me, the long drive was too much time away from family and kids. Paying to transport it was worth it for me. I just used the wrong carrier initially.
Intercity is one of the more expensive ones. You could consider looking for a non enclosed carrier if you're hoping to save some money. That's what I ultimately did. Good luck!
When I found mine in Virginia, I drove 275 miles to see it, had a PPI.
Following weekend drove with a friend, and drove my new to me Porsche back home.
Loved every mile....
I just flew 700 miles to pick up my new to me 2002 c4s and drove it home. what a great experience. Loved every minute of it and would do it again in a heart beat.

I'd fly out and see the car (don't forget to get a PPI!) and if the car passes muster buy it and drive it back, taking the LONG way home.
