Hood will not release. Went through the prescribed steps in the Owners Manual, no luck (good fuse) & (jumped with external battery attached). New battery in car, three months ago (no, it's not lack of juice) hood opened then.
Look at all the links re: manual hood release (no could not find the wire in the right front wheel well).
Has anyone removed the front bumper to access the solenoid for the release?
Is it even possible to get to it from there?
Any assistance/experience in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Side note: switched micro switches (tail hood release and front hood release) when activated the tail hood switch still opened the tail hood. Thought that strange who do it know?
what the year of your car?
when u press open button, do u hear any sound? like click sound, and solenoid sound?
mine solenoid is aging, so most of the time it doesn't pull the cable, i had to rewire the manual hood release behind the tow hook.
if you cant locate the cable, try to take out passage-side wheel and wheel wall, fish from them.
40 year not sure but I think someone a while back found their emergency release cable had slip towards the front bumper. Possibly it was relocated to around the underside of the bumper during a repair or alteration or pinned under the bumper cover some place.
I have relocated my emergency release cable like Pac996 says because it was almost impossible to find behind the wheel, so it's possible that someone already did that to the car. You're looking for a thin braided metal wire.
Thanks all for the help.
Sat.
Assembled all that I disassembled (wheels off, passengers-side fender well liners, all accessable front bumper screws/plastic poprivits). Took it for a long ride to the casino and back, when I pulled in tried the hood again WALA it popped opened.
Sun.
Removed the interior molded carpet and accessed the latch with solenoid attached. Cleaned oiled, and just generally fiddled with it. Found the manual activation lever by looking in the center hole to the passengers headlight. Attached a stiff white wire (additional length of about 12") to the loop and fished it down to back side of the wheel well liner for future ease of location and emergency release.
Actuated it without latch attached (multiple times) seem to work fine except for consecutive operations the solenoid seem to fatigue.
Reinstall, shut the hood and it worked, this time.

Right side (passenger) headlight, I opened the center rubber plug (large round one) and put my finger in there and fished around. Was kind of laying in a channel of the body.
Even with the inner wheel well lining removed I was not able to see the wire from the wheel well, believe me I looked and looked.
Some owners have moved the loop/release cable down to where the plug is for the tow hook would be installed. Sounds like a positive modification but I would remove the bumper and insure that the mod.
can be done without creating any other problems.
Again I can only speak for where I found my release cable. Let me know if you need any additional help.
