Today I replaced both ballast resistors since they didn't function anymore. Instead of using crimp connectors I soldered the wires together (couldn't get my hands on crimp connectors). I am now wondering if the solder will hold due to high current passing the wires. What do you guys think?

A good solder job should create lower resistance than a crimp. But a crimp is more repeatable and stands up to vibration better. If there is something that causes a high temp condition, it won't soften or melt.
