I swung through FD Motorsports this morning - since I'm moving soon, I figured I might as well take care of this while I was somewhat local.
  • Butt dyno readings are, in fact, excellent.
  • I'm running at around 20% higher smiles per gallon (and significantly better than that in $/smile).
  • For some reason my transmission wants to stick a gear lower than it used to. No idea why
Also, Darin is great to work with. I highly recommend getting this done at his shop if you ever have an excuse to be in the area.

Those of you who have ordered the Fister mufflers, roughly how long was the wait once you put in the request?

Email Darin and ask him...he'll know his backlog.

It really depends on what model/year you have. The mufflers are extremely popular and core exchanges take some time to complete: shipping out, installing, shipping back. I only have so many cores that I own so sometimes there gets to be a bit of a backlog due to the high demand. We work our butts off to get them out as quickly as possible.
If you can send your mufflers in for direct modification, there is no waiting. We get them turned around quickly.

$150.00 for both. Not the prettiest welds but it does the trick... :-)

Don't have Fisters on your 996? WTF are you waiting for?

How do I know if my mufflers are acceptable cores? The website says, "not dented, cracked, overly rusty or having internal rattles". What is "overly rusty?"

I would think that surface rust would be okay but anything structural would not be accepted. I sent my mufflers to Darin 8 years ago and I still love the sound.

For all the FD converts, what's your assessment on viability for daily use? 5:00AM wakeups, commute to the office, running errands... the whole lot. What say ye?

It’s fine, just make sure you tip toe with throttle and shift at lower RPM, it only growls with wider throttle openings. On the highway you would hardly hear it cruising along with steady throttle.
