Quix, what does the limited warranty cover? My dealer let me keep mine, though I asked if they needed to send it in to LN. I was told they did not.

Yes, but only on IMS Upgrades or Retrofit kits purchased through and installed by authorized dealers.
We will match the authorized dealer's warranty up to 24 months/24,000 mi on an intermediate shaft that has received the IMS Upgrade or on a Retrofit kit installed as preventative maintenance.
Goodwill will be considered on a case by case scenario for rebuild or replacement of an engine if found that our IMS Upgrade or IMS Retrofit was the cause of engine failure by Flat 6 Innovations in the contiguous 48-United States.
Due to our inability to control the circumstances of an IMS Retrofit installation, there is no warranty on this product if a retrofit kit is being installed in place of a failed IMS bearing. Warranty form comes with your IMS retrofit kit with terms and conditions of limited warranty.

Hmmm, I never sent my bearing back. But I don't think there is a warranty anyhow since I installed it myself. I though it had to be "professionally" installed by a high school dropout wrenching in a shop to get a warranty.

My email exchange with Charles Navarro from LNE contained this regarding a reason for returning the IMS bearing:
"This ensures the procedure was carried out on a vehicle with an IMS bearing that had not been failing or had already failed. Secondly, we use the factory bearings to further gather data on them to better understand the frequency of these failures."
Marc quoted the site accurately, of course, but Charles also told me that they would be updating the site to provide more information about why the bearings need to be returned.

I'm looking to purchase a low mileage '03 996, but have the option to get a warranty through the dealer.
Has anyone had major engine repairs (especially IMS) covered under a non-manufacturer's warranty? If so, which warranty company?
Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm just looking for some insurance against an engine replacement and not sure whether I can trust any of these companies. A specific one I was offered is National Warranty of Florida, which is a sub of a larger company.
Thanks
