"Actual" Porsche enthusiast?

That's the 912 guy who I caught drifting it through a great double apex over a bridge on my drive to work. In November.

It's the fellow in my neighborhood who drives a 356C with a luggage rack year round. The luggage gets a bit wet in the off-season.

I'm loving the heated seats. And the memory--saves so much effort after the wife's been driving. 996--the real enthusiast's 911.

Just wait a darn minute here. I finally got my act together to buy a Porsche 911, and you guys are telling me that I really got a 996? WTF???? Now what am I supposed to do? I put all that money into a car with two 9's in its name when I really wanted one with two 1's.

Back to the drawing boards!

If you guys think 996's are looked down upon in some poncy US neighbourhoods, spare a thought for us poor, downtrodden Boxster owners. And especially if the car is 10 years old, like my 2001 S.

No one wants us (sob).
When approached, 996 drivers look ascance and change the subject while the air cooled brigade just sneer as they walk away.
I've heard it all, from "not a real Porsche", "couldn't you afford a proper one" to "its a poor mans Porsche" !!
Ah well, who cares - I guess you can't please everyone.....

After saying that, early Boxsters are relatively affordable (here in Australia, you can pick up a ratty 15 year old 2.5 here for $30,000) which many new - usually young - owners think they can afford (just) to buy, but cannot afford the running costs.
I wonder if the majority of these youngsters can be classed as enthusiasts or simply naive?

I think the enthusiaasts should thank the sheep for buying and supporting the brand they have no clue about. Personally, my opinion of an an enthusiast is a person willing to talk about the car to anyone that has ears and can hear.

There's the concours guys, the track guys, the hot rod guys, and the country club guys. Three out of four isn't bad.

Hehe, I have to admit I'm guilty of doing this as well. Excited to see another P car owner but it all turned to nothing after seeing that it was really a Boxster.....

Next time I'll make the effort to wave to a Boxster driver.

You can get a leggy one for $23k in NZ.

I have other Porsche owners wave, flash lights at me and get thumbs up from other drivers. Was the same when I drove my BMW with other BMW drivers. Also the same in my muscle car days. Just depends on who it is.

LOL.. well dont forget to make him insistant too by adding "you can get it at pepboys, But the staff generally doesnt know what it is becasue only high $$ european cars use it. Make sure you have him look it up in th e computer.. He'll find it."

I dont hold my nose up at people who drive Boxsters......in fact I wave at all P-cars...even 924's

anyone who thinks a Boxster is a bad car should drive one... they are pretty balanced and quite fun. I have thought about picking up one on the cheap and making a real stripped out track toy, but alsa I dont make enough to support two cars so I bought a real Porsche instead

KIDDING!
