Default Wheel offset-need advice

I would like to fit OEM 17" or 18" wheels to my '99 cabrio. The owner's manual says both the front and rear offset should be 55mm. How much do I dare deviating from this offset before encountering clearance problems? Is +/- 5mm okay?

FYI-My 996 is a daily driver currently fitted with 18" chrome wheels, which have too much bling for me!

5 mm would not be an issue IMO - put pre/post number in the link and read the bottom for what the changes actually mean in regards to clearance

What size wheels are you interested in? The 18" wheels have different offsets than the 17" wheels. If you are looking for a very high quality, light weight forged wheel, I can help you. http://www.fikse.com
