Default Vibrations At Speeds 140km/h

Hi guys,

I just came back from a speed run today and realised that my car produces loads of vibrations through the whole car but i dont feel it through the steering wheel. The vibrations only become really bad at speeds 140km/h and above. Any ideas?

Cheers

well the first place to look is tires and balance, then wheels, then bearings, then drive shafts, then motor/trans mounts.....

you will most likely find its a poorly balance tire/wheel

- do you not drive it over 140 everyday?...

+1. The most likely - though not the only - explanation is a balance problem on a rear wheel. The issue could be that the wheel has thrown a weight or, believe it or not, simply that there's mud or some such on the inside of a rim.

If I get vibration at 120km/h (75mph) that isn't felt in the steering wheel, I would check rear tire balance/runout and motor mounts, then alignment after that ...see post 2

I cant drive my car at 140km/h. Singapore is too bloody small to do anything.

+1 what Ed says

additionally, check your tire pressures too. If you have not determined what pressures feel best for your car, tires, conditions, etc. try what the factory recommends.

Also, sometimes the road surfaces can contribite to how a car feels at speed. At 140 km/h the car should be very well behaved and not exhibit any negative feedback. 210 things start to get a little interesting and when you take your hand off the wheel to see how the car's tracking, don't do it for too long. 250kh/m, you should put the coffee and cell phone away and use both hand for the most part. It's normal for the front end to start feeling a little floaty and very slightly detached. Sorry but I can't report on what your car should feel like above this.

all good point, pressure, alignment and road surface

so if you cant get er up to 90 mph due to your country being too small, why all the mods

Step One - Check for Visual Damage to the Rim, Tires, Suspension and Control Arms
Step Two - Then, Get them Balanced
Step Three - Get new Tires ( I did all the above and found my front Tires were damaged, the belts were shifted, it probaly happend at the track due to Running Incorrect Tire Pressure)

How far above 140 did you go to see if the vibrations went away?
