Well, got her buttoned up. Everything is working well and had a great Sunday out driving around today. Final report on the damage from reversed polarity:

1. One fried alternator- really toasted
2. 10Amp fuse blown behind the OEM Radio

Total cost: $160. I got the Autozone alternator for $160 and change. It is exactly the same as the OEM Porsche which looks like $1500. Talk about mark up. And the Autozone has lifetime warranty ( hopefully will not need to use it when I change the next battery).

Anyway, I feel good. Car is running great. Engine got a great internal cleaning into areas previously not seen before. I put in a need Serpentine Belt as it is due at the 60K service.

Thanks to all for your support.

how was the alternator swap ? I thought that to get it out of there you would need to remove a lot of parts ? no ?

Renntech.org has good threads with the steps. The main steps are airbox removal and serpentine belt removal. The hardest part was getting the alternator out as it is a tight fit. Once you free up the right rear bushing and drop the right side down, the alternator will rotate clockwise then fall forward to free the rear wires. It was a weekend project.

Awesome, glad that's all that was affected. Those lifetime alternators are rebuilt to factory specs and really are a good value.

I'm happy to hear you were able to solve the problem without major cost, and now know how to replace your alternator as well. Well done in my book.

Am very pleased this wasn't worse than it was! And look how much smarter you are about the operation and maintenance of your engine and accessories, too!

Rebuilt Bosch alternator is $350 from Pelican and core charges apply.

Your mistake will end up saving someone else at least $200 just from the Autozone tip.

Everything happens for a reason and as stoopid as it was at least half of us have done something stoopider, and more dangerous.

Like just the other day....forget it - last thing we need is another admit your dumb mistake thread.
