Led Tail Lights İnstallation Problem - Please Help Me :(:(:(
Hi.ı have a big problem.. In Turkey no body know something about this lights.
Porsche services dont know somethnig too.So ı must ask these questions to you.
Thank you for your patient.
Firstly, I bought one pair of porsche smoked tail lights.
I went to porsche services. But there is some problems.
Firstly ı read something about resistors. My Porsche is 2003 year 911 Cabriolet 4.
So I read rennlist.I think i need resistor.I bought2 resistors...
If you want ı can bougt 2 resistors more . ?
And There is some problems firstly.I and porsche services dont decide
which cables install resistor.I know somewhere there is writing about this topic.
But my english is not good and i cant understand these things.
One problem is İ need a resistor or not. My car is 2003 model 996 porsche.
If ı need resistor , how many resistor.Because i bouth 2 . 6,8 ohm 20 watt resistor. the other problem is in the pictures there
is one cable which name is 3.ı dont find where i will install this cable.because i know there is 4 lights in original porsche.
and the leds lights 2 lights and 2 led everthing is okey. but there is cable which name is 3 in the pictures.
i and porsche services dont find the place where i can install.
my last question is . if i need a resistor. how can i install the resistors. which cables need resistors.and
there is one thing. one electirician say to me , resistors can hot and hot by the time. when resistors hot , this can melt the tail
lights cable.this is true. what can ı do for this thing.
Thank You for your interest.
Thank you everything.

Here is an simple explanation and possible solution to your problem:
http://www.jkisrmb.com/tail_light_led_bulb_fix.htm
If your resistor has an arrow, that typically has to be pointed toward the ground connection.
There are others on the site who have done this conversion that have more specific information; but meanwhile, this might get you on the right track. GL!

I know this site but this isnt enough for us.
Because Porsche Service dont understand something this site.
I need someone who make this work before.
Thank you.

Welcome SS911.
I installed LED bulbs, (not the tailights, the bulbs) in my '03 911 with out resistors. It triggered the ABS and the PASM lights on the dash. I took the bulbs out because I have the same questions you do.

Please someone help us..
I will be crazy..
I waited this tail lights 2 months with excitement..
But know i cant make something.
I know in this forum there is too much people who install this led taillights.
I have a little 4 question -
1 )What will ı make third cable ? What is this ?
2 ) I know ı need resistor.20 watt 6.8 ohm resistors is good and enough. I have one pair.
3 ) Which cables ı install resistors ?.Can you say numbers to my pictures ?
4 )And One electirician say to me this resistors will hot.Can resistors melt my taillight cable or not ?

I installed the same lights three days ago, and the "blade" wire (your number 3 picture) caused a problem, so I decided not to use it. I have noticed no side effects or issues by not using the wire you have listed as number 3.
I did not use resistors due to possible heat and wiring issues, instead I ordered a $12 USD relay to handle the hyper blinker issue.

I believe you have 4 wires that you need to hook up:
1 Tail light
2 Brake light
3 Reverse light
4 Ground
Install first resistor between 1 Tail light wire and arrow to 4 Ground.
Install second resistor between 2 Brake light and arrow to 4 Ground.
This should trick the system into thinking full wattage bulbs are still there.
You should be able to get help form any auto mechanic shop. This is not a Porsche specific problem.
Good Luck

Thank you for your replys..
Okey i understand ı need 4 resistors. because
left tail light 2 resistor ( turn and break )
right tail light 2 resistor ( turn and break )
is it true ?
if its true what resistors do i need.
20 watt 6.8 ohm resistors or 50 watt 6.8 ohm resistors what is the difference. ?
ı dont use third cable ı understand these .
after these 2 question i have last question.
will resistors hot or not.
if its hotter hotter , can it melt my cables ? what is the solution of this problem..
Thank you for all thankss...

Those are terrible resistors!
You need this type:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Load-Resistor-Set...item43a486bf6b
Mount them to the body inside the taillight area right to the metal of the car and solder in a quick disconnect in the wire so that you can remove the taillight housing without removing the resistors. Drill a small 1/16th inch hole and put one small metal screw through the hole on the resistor plate so that the resistor is touching the metal. You are doing this to remove heat from the resistor by using the car body as a heat sink. The only time these resistors will get really warm is if you have to use your 4 ways for a long time. They won't get that warm or hot just using them for a turn or lane change.
If you have added LED's for the 3rd Brake light you'll have to add a load resistor there as well. Some of the 3rd LED brake lights have to have the wires switched around to work.
If you have connected the small end wires (corner park lights) and put the power on - you WILL blow the two fuses for all the park lights. You can try all day to get the tail lights to work and wonder why they don't. Ask me how I know! The two fuses are in row A and both are 7.5amp.
Here is a diagram for the resistors:

Thank you for your very valueable answers
But there is problem i live in Turkey . İn antalya
So i cant find or buy this type of good resistors.
İ try to find today but i cant. So i have to say
someone and the electrician make this resistors
for me . Because i cant find these complicated resistors
İn Turkey . So i need the properties and number of
the resistors . Fistly how many resistors i need.
And what is the ohm and watt the resistors . İs resistor
different between tail light resistor and brake light
resistor? And finally what can i say the electirician
for the resistors if i want cold resistors..what is the name
of the resistors which is not being hot..
Thankk you for your everything. İ know these
questions included very details but no body know these
details. Sorry andd thank you so muchh ...

You need 6 ohm / 50W (50 tane for sor vat OHM dirençler yükler)
1 for each signal lamp
Depending on your model/year you may need 1 each for the brake/tail light's. Some 2003 and up have ABS/PSM lights come on if you don't isolate all circuits with proper resistors. The system goes into fail mode as it detects (or thinks it detects) a failed brake lamp because of the lower draw using LED's.
Your signal lamps are two wires - so wire according to above diagram I posted earlier.
Your brake / tail lights are 3 wires (Red/Blue/Black) so wire them as per the three wire set up.
Buy extra car fuses... just in case!! 7.5amp for tail light and *I think* 10amp for brake. (Check the rating as I'm not near my car).
Do not mount with tape or glue and don't mount to the plastic housing of the tail lights. If you have to use those resistors you had a picture of - I would glue a little piece of thin metal (even tinfoil) against the area where the ressitor could possibly touch plastic. Any time you can create an air gap so they don't touch plastic - the better.
I don't know what you mean by cold or hot resistors? The heat is a product of work load put in.
You can't buy using ebay?
If not - check your local suppliers:

make a search on the forum you will see that you can buy RELAY specifically for your led tailight, it is a direct swap from the relay located under the dash, atop of the fuse box.

Link below is for the relay I purchased to fix my hyperflash. It is very easy to verify, just pull your relay and compare to the onsite chart.
