Default Rims got schooled: Factory chrome gone, powder coated, + pumpkins & engine detail

Folks-

Newbie Mawgie here, he of the recently purchased 2002 Carrera Coupe. Last week, I pulled the snowblower off my tractor, which directly led to the blizzard we are experiencing here in Upstate NY.

I have completed some mods, and got some snaps last weekend, in much happier weather times:

1- ugly factory turbo look 18" chrome (technically physical vapor deposition, not chrome) rims have been stripped and powdercoated, fresh
pzeros road force balanced;

2- I detailed the engine bay with Simple Green Pro HD (purple), easy and worked wonders;

3- installed knock off sport pedals, also easy and added a perceived 23hp at the butt;

4- swapped the pumpkins, easy breezy with tires off and car up on jackstands;

5- did not install the gauge bezel kit, I might be keeping it black. Not sure yet.

Pics time!

Regards-Mawgie

Thanks, Country 911. I have painted the center caps myself using plastic primer, rattle can enamel, and clear. They are obviously darker than the rims, but look okay to me. For now they are staying. I am looking forward to getting them spinning.................

Never photograph your wheels with rusty brake rotors in the background!

Hey Country911, I just carefully read your Pcar description in your signature. Is it true that you toss a hunk of raw meat into the garage every morning for your Carrera to gnaw on? Me likey.

Mawgie -- Yep, that's what I like, a guy who measures HP at the butt. We don't need no stinkin' dyno!! And I'll bet it drives faster after a wash and a wax too. I know that mine does.

The wheels look nice. You're making progress. OK, you've redeemed yourself. Welcome to the insanity.

Simple Green will etch and oxidize aluminum. Bad for anything aluminum - like engine blocks and cylinders/heads. I'd keep the Simple Green away from the pcar.

996 Pilot -

Not "Simple Green",
"Simple Green Pro HD".

There is a big difference.
The Pro HD formulation won't etch or otherwise fu**up aluminum parts.

Additionally, I mixed it in a lower concentration formula than recommended, didn't leave it on long, rinsed thoroughly and carefully after a short soak, then compressed air and 303 to finish.

Your mileage may vary.
For me, when I look at my engine bay, I say, "there's a cat who looks after his ride."

Isn't this all internal? Seen a few threads using this and they all positive.

Mawgie. Glad that you like the new Avatar. I updated on your suggestion. But I don't understand your comment. Yes, you put me onto a very nice dark blue Turbo while I was hunting. There were others who pointed cars out to me as well. This one happened to be my pick of the pack.

Do you feel like you somehow got cheated?

BTW, looking at 1+ inches expected tonight in the Chicago area. No snow blower, no shovel. The damn stuff will melt in two days, and the Red Devil is in the garage. The Subaru is back in action.
