Reliability
Hey guys, I'm a C2S 997 owner. THe car has been off warranty for about 6 months with no problems. The car has been rock solid without one problem. I'm coming to you 996 owners to find out about living with a 911 off warranty. Does anyone regret not upgrading to something with a warranty? How expensive have the cars been to own off warranty?

Mine has about 96K miles right now. It is one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Sure - you'll get hit with an expensive repair every now and then, but overall I wouldn't worry about it. My annual maintenance expense is far, far less than my payments would be if I decided to upgrade.

I've owned my 996 for 6 days now, but I did buy a Fidelity warranty with it, just because I bought it used and have a lot invested in it. Normally I never ever buy extra warranties, I mean if a company cant' make a quality product, then why even own it. But I think it really depends on what you can stomach. Maybe get one with a high deductible just in case something big happens? They are a little cheaper that way.

I wouldn't get warranty. But I also like to play the odds with situations like these in my opinion.
If it's an early 997, and you don't like DIY's.... then it might be ok to get warranty.

You might be surprised at some of the warranty options your dealer can provide. Not a bad idea to ask the question. If you bought the car new and dealer mintained it they should make a good offer.

My car is 11 coming to 12 years old. No warranties. I do perform the schedule maintenance and always look for weird noises or issues that are not the normal. I did asked around for extended warranties but most of them will not cover my 99.
I do have warranty on my Merc and have used it a few times already which helped out big time.
I think our cars are very reliable and maintenance is minor compared to other cars.

I am off CPO warranty about a year now.
Since then, the only fault to speak of is that my oil filler neck cracked. ~35 bucks i think. I did my belt as scheduled, dealer had just done plugs and coil packs. I really feel like these 996s are close to bulletproof, obviously people disagree who have had engine failures. If someone would sell me low deductible engine/trans/catalytic converter coverage for less than $250 a year I would consider it. I love sleep. Not that it keeps me up at night.
Costs have been low. Honda low in my case. I may just be lucky but none of my German cars really have ever cost me much money off warranty, mostly thanks to me being a ***** at the service department while they are new/CPO, cheapo diagnostic testers, the internet, and when it gets complicated a retired mechanical engineer for a father. I have been forced to buy strange metric tools more often than I'd like, but that's about it.
The only exception was an old A6 we bought CPO @ 20k miles, which was perfect until about 90K miles. After which point it promptly became catastrophically expensive to own.

C Pepper,
What did you pay for the fidelity policy if you don't mind sharing.

Ferd I hear the new TPC turbo kit is a pretty easy DIY, 10K new! (although the TTs are so cheap now)
Ryan I've decided to own no more Audis, lease w/ maintenance and warranty all in, sure, but no more purchases. And in my experiences with my buddies' vehicles, these gremlins are in the gallardos and the continental GTs as well.
