Grass Gymkhana - Porsche Club Wellington NZ
Summer is here (southern hemisphere that is), and this means it's time for another Grass Gymkhana.
The local Porsche Club chapter organised one on 13 Feb this year, at a paddock part of the Tauherenikau horse racetrack, in Featherston about an hour north of Wellington.
It was well attended with 3 996 (all 4wd-including a Turbo), 944, 928, 964, 968CS, 993 Turbo. And a C-Class.
The day started at 10am and finished at 4pm with break for lunch (roast beef) catered by the local pub/cafe/restaurant. All in all a very civilised way to have fun on a very warm day. My car registered 31.5 C which was very hot considering max temp. for Wellington usually hovers around 25 C.
Here are some pictures from the event, the event had four different tracks and each participant had three runs per track with a practice run for the harder tracks.
We all helped in setting up the tracks, timing, recording and tidying up etc.

Thank you for sharing! I have great memories of my visits to New Zealand, and only wish I would have had a Porsche to drive along the beautiful country highways instead of my Hertz rental!

Due to popular demands, I have put up more pictures....
@jsmirand, redridge: we do have beautiful scenery here. There is a company that hires out high-end cars. But it's very costly, both the daily rental as well as insurance. Might as well get a Hertz (or bus) and not having to worry where you park it etc.
@Country911, while it looked nice using a topless car, I found out that lots of dust, dry grass and (dried) cow p**s can be thrown inside the car. At the end I put roof up as my son and I were covered by you know what.

Looks mighty fun. I was just talking to Coffs Harbor and Melbourne in aussie land then Waikuku, Napier the North Island tonight using digital around 14.07MHz. Climbed Mt Thomas outside Christchurch in 74 going to ACT. Your country is beautiful. All you need is a fund raser car wash at the end of the events for guys to use before the drive home. Take care over there and start a hobby of ham radio.

@Pac996: now you need to visit us for real. Not just through radio transmission. I used to be a CB-er but that was 20 yrs ago, and that wasn't in NZ. Don't think will have the time with family etc. (the porker is part of the family as well).

I hope your family is all OK with the earthquake and all. Lately I've just been visiting south west asia. I get free rides there but no car, bike or ham radio allowed.
Take acre out there. I hope the earthquakes are over for your area. Don't want to be like Haiti.

Thanks for thinking of us. I'm in Wellington which is on a different island to Christchurch. However a number of people, both friends and my staff would have friends and families in Chch.
They've closed the city down, and getting people out of the danger zone. Since they would've resources on the ground from the first earthquake in Sept last year, they would be able to do this quickly. However unfortunately this time there would be a number of fatalities. The airport control tower has collapsed and all air traffic have been diverted elsewhere.

@robert r: I just wished that this would stop, flooding, earthquakes, cyclones etc. etc. We're grateful with Gillard's offer of help, and we'd had people in Queensland just last month.
