Headlight film mod ... with "ovals"
Seems like some people were interested in my headlight cover, from another thread and I figure other might be interested as well.
I had ordered those headlight cover form eBay a while back and after sitting on the shelf for a few month I decided to give them a shot. The install is not that easy, at least not without a heat gun. I used a hairdryer so the middle had some bubble I could not get rid off, so I decided to simply cut the middle part and make a nice oval, 997 style, in the middle.
If you wondered, the fog light are useless once the film is applied, so if you were thinking about leaving the film over the headlight projector, think again. I did not open mine for that reason but in the end I am glad I did, look wise and to keep my headlight functional.
So fire your comment away, love it - hate it - like it ...

I love the 996.2 headlights but I think what you've done, not only looks very unique, but very well done

I like it...and it may be the better way to cover my headlights which are slightly yellowed and I can't quite get the haze removed with headlight cleaner.
Is there an ebay store that sells these?

thanks for the positive comments
You can buy them on ebay, could not find any for sale at this time, but as I said, I think it might be worth investing in a better product such as
http://www.xpel.com/
The great thing is that the whole headlight assembly gets out of the car very easily so you can work on them in the comfort of your home and take your time.
If you attempt it, the only pain was to be able to apply the film on the headlight washers chrome caps. You really have to pull those on them super hard to get them moving. Be careful not to break them but for me they were pretty strong.
I pulled on the chrome part with my fingers, far enough so that I could grab the underlining piece of plastic, and then pull more on that piece which is much stronger. Once the thing is puller out all the way, you disconnect the chrome cap easily.

I actually wanted to hate it as I hate the 996 crowd trying to emulate the 997 lights. However, yours is very well done. My only complaint (and it's my OCD kicking in) is that the cut line is not as good as I would have wanted. Since I like it I would have called that the experimental set, removed, ordered a new set, cut PERFECTLY, and installed.
Well done

yeah I am really bummed as well that my cuts are not perfect.. but after fighting with the damned plastic film for a couple of hours, I decided to call it a day.
Even though I then glanced at the xpel film, hoping to do a better job with better material next time. But now that I have my new 19nch rims and my row suspension to install I think I should be busy for a little while before I attempt this again.
The best would be if someone would sell those film with the cut in the middle already done, but that might be impossible as the film need to be stretched to fit the non planar surface.
