my first Porsche!
Hi everybody, im new here and this s my first thread so please be patient..
1. I bought my first Porsche (2001 c4 convertible) 3 weeks ago i used to have a bimmer before, and i love it! the only thing that bothers me and i know youve heared so many times is the drone on 2k-3k.. lets say i DONT CARE about the sound on low and the high and i only care about no annoying drone on these limits (the car is a daily driver so i most of the times i drive on these levels) what would you recommand??
2. The car makes a noise when i lock the car in the fuel tank hole, something is broken i guess, is that the "996.605.203.01 Fuel tank vent valve (b1) " or im wrong? the noise when i lock the car drives me crazy..
THANKS EVERYBODY

As for the gas tank door noise, there is a mechanism that locks the door when the car is locked to prevent someone from siphoning gas from your tank. It sounds to me like that mechanism is broken or failing on yours. I doubt it has to to with a vent. My guess is that it is the 996.624.113.00 Fuel door actuator -- a $25 part.

You can get rid of the droning noise by downshifting. Personally, I like the steady hum.
Oh, and welcome, but you need to post a pic or you will be banned. Well, maybe not banned, but you will be shunned and ridiculed.

He....he didn't post pics? Oh my gosh, that's the first strike. We better watch this guy.
I have found my car makes noise too
Having observed many situations around the world, may I suggest you only worry when you don't hear any noise from your engine after trying to start it?
Try something like plexus on the gas lid locking mech. You can find it at most motorcycle shops. It's used to clean plastics and revitalize them. It is nothing like the dreaded armor all killer of plastics and rubber. Make sure you shake the Plexus. It has some silicone in it besides other stuff.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum. Please post the customary pic of your new car!
I'm not sure what to tell you about drone - my car doesn't do it. Or perhaps it does and I've gotten used to it. Either way, it doesn't bother me at all.

Welcome to the happiest and most friendly forum on any 996 board anywhere (that is once you post a picture of your car. LOL!)
Let's be specific about the gas cap locking mechanism, for you. There is a plastic pin that is driven from the rear of the gas door opening, into a slot on the gas cap lid. There is a circular black plastic bushing with one flat edge that keeps the pin centered in its hole. If that bushing has slipped or is missing, the pin hits the metal around the door without actually locking it.
So first, check to make certain the bushing is:
A. There,
B. Properly snapped into the hole and the pin sliding smoothly through it. The flat edge touched the metal support, thus keeping it in place and aligned in the hole,
C. The pin slides through the hole on the lid without striking metal, or stopping short of locking the door,
D. Check to make certain the gas cap cover is properly aligned.
