30K Service and Spark Plugs
Need a bit of help guys.
I am selling my car and subject to some negotiation it is sold.
I had the 30K service done a while back and the PPI dealer is asking why the plugs weren't changed. Talked to my dealer who said because they dont get done til 60K. He printed off the service manual page which clearly says only up to model year 2000 change the plugs, otherwise its 60K.
PPI dealer is arguing thats not correct. Renntech lists a change of plugs at 30K.
Who is correct?

in the end the buyer is correct..... who cares what either says, I am sure its only a few $$$ and will make the buyer finish the deal, I would just ask them what they want in lue of having not been changed at the 30k service and finish the deal, they may just split the cost or whatever, its not like you are going to run it thru the shop and have it done for the buyer.... let them worry about it
just my opinion
OH and if they are unreasonable.... tell em find another car.

technically you are correct and you can show them this picture/book.
but I wouldnt loose a deal over it, I would show them why it was done the way it was and ask them, what do you want to do about it... until you know how big of a deal it is for the buyer you cannot make a decision - in other words if you show them and they say "We want $5k off the price" you can tell them to pound sand, however if they say "we want $250 off for the cost of plugs", that might be something you are willing to move on -
show them, and ask,.... put the ball in thier court
again this is just me

Wanted to be clear on my 'technically correct' position. Also p****d that the other P dealer is talking BS by telling him he needs to have an $1850 service performed as the plugs were not done.
Not to mention the inflated prices they put in the PPI was nuts.......for example $70 to install a door courtesy light bulb!!!
The guy is understandably shocked at what the dealer is telling them....unfortunately its either plain wrong or over inflated nonsense......now we are in a 'my dealer says' discussion. We will work it through.
Thanks

hmmm- that does suck - $2k is not small potatos...
are you in contact with the buyer?
I would talk to him in person and just be calm as can be... say, you know $1800 sounds a little high and we have seen large swings in prices between dealers. Since you know what this dealer is "saying" is wrong, how about calling a couple places and just asking what they would charge for that same service. Its not that I dont trust thme, but it just seems a little high to me.....

checkered flag decal
I bought them from:
http://www.porschestripes.com/index.html
Fairly easy to install. He posted a DIY on the site. However, you need to ensure NO water gets on the back surface of the decal during the install. He mentioned this but did not emphasize it well. This surface is removed when you install the decal, but if it gets wet, it will stick to the adhesive.

The guy is being cheap to get more off the price. Try reminding him who is in a better position to deal. Is it the owner of the 911 or the guy being cheap. The other shop isn't being nice to the buyer also since that shop knows its got him bringing the car to them if he buys it.

The Indy that works on my car did a 30K service for me last month. He said that he normally changes the plugs every 30K because it's not such a big deal, and for the small dollars, why not have solid plugs in every 30K. For point of reference, the major 30K service cost me $800. That's including an oil change and filter, air filter, spark plugs, cabin pollen filter, flush and bleed brake fluid, full inspection, and oh yes - 6 spark plugs.
For your buyer to say that the service is $1,800 - tell him that he should find another shop to service the car. First of all, his request for the discount in that amount is unwarranted, and second of all, he should find someone more reasonable to spend his hard earned dollars with.
If he insists on the discount, tell him to find another seller.

I just added the cost of all the DIY work I have done on my 99 996 including the cost of a OTC racing jack and 2 stands, ie two oil and filter changes, brake fluid changed, brake pads and bleeding done, plus sensors, cabin polin filter, air filter, serpentine belt, spark plugs and new tubes, changed full cooling system and I still can't get anywhere near to $800. So I think you are being overcharged on the full service by at least $1000.. the effing so and so's... At those crazy prices we are forced into doing our own work. One consolation is:- we know that the work has been done correctly.

I just had my 60k done at 58k. I have a tune and was getting some misfires under load in 4th. I had new plugs, 997 coil packs, and Pre cat O2 sensors replaced. All I can say is wow! It wasn't cheap, but it is like a new car. It ran fine before, but was a little raw. I just thought that was normal. the smoothness these replacements induced is amazing. Now I need a new exhaust to get the rawness back. Its too smooth. LOL
