Default Key Fob Trick

Skip to bottom line to skip babbling.

Some of us are cursed. I figured after installing a new battery the fob work right off the bat then give it a night and its intermitent I finally figure maybe I'm putting too much into it thinking its a leaking diode taking the battery down. Helps to figure battery still tests to be 3V and after unplugging battery and reinstalling it some times the fob snaps out of its curse. Sooooo either cracked surface mount solder or diode or just putting too much thought into it. Maybe even a missing spacer.......

So today I took some paper wrapping tape and cut small squares of it and attached them to the back of the battery. This is an effort to take any of the play out between the battery and the back of the fob case. We know the fob remote is connected/snapped into place with flemsy plastic. I ending up figuring maybe the reason I get intermitent bright lighting of the red light is the contacts aren't getting enough pressure. I had cleaned the contacts many times and always got the weak light after a while and some times no light. Now I get a good contact and the fob seems to work most of the time. Most of the time it works.......hard to break a curse I guess but the light sure goes strong now. I just used tape and it could probably fit some more tape since the fob still snaps together. This isn't masking tape which I lok at as kind of sponge like. It's the hard paper packaging tape. Try your luck with what ever.

Might be a happy winter if it works and keeps working.

I know some had mentioned they wouldn't get any indication of light to signal the fob is working. Mine would do that some times.

Put tape on the back of your battery if the fob doesn't work and it might wake back up.

Great idea. I have found that many of the switch contacts on the 996 get really dirty or actually bend or break over time. Replacing them is cost-prohibitive, so repair is the way to go. The micro switch in my console was having issues because the contact became compressed over time. Some dextrous bending and manipulating later, voila, it was fixed.
