So, I was taking my 1-3 cyl.head apart today.
Plan was to change the variocam pads for this side. I all ready have changed the pads for 4-6 head.
Now i noticed that the sparkplug hole on the cyl 2 had slight colour change (yellow).
The sparkplug tube had leaked a litle, so could it be burned oil?
Other than this and the pad's the head looked like new.
I have changed the waterpump and the impeller was fine.
You can see it in the picture, thou the oil on it makes it look more yellow that it really is.

Yes it is probably cooked oil like a chinese wok looks when it has been seasoned by burning oil onto the metal surface. I can't think of anything else it would be either.
Don't try the below with your car![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The first video at 2:30 you'll see the same color

This lady uses a short cut skipping the yellowish color of burned oil.

Baked on like laquer then probably.
I'm not sure if some of the industrial kitchen copper cleaners would eat that stuff off. I know its good for tarnish. I'd try q-tips with a cleaner on the spot. I believe hydrogen peroxide might be one NOT to try since I kinda recall it turns the metal black while eating metal.

tough call... can you run a leak down on it? and or compression test
most likely its just from a leaking spark plug tube and no big deal, but it would be a lot easier to fix it now then after you put the motor back in

I am one of the guys with the thinking of "while you are there", but I would not mess with it. I don't think you will find anything in the coolant channels.

I pulled the engine for IMS, RMS (did not leak) and the variocam pads. It had full power and no problems with losing water.
Have anyone seen something like this before?
I get the parts next week so I'm in no rush with this one.

Just have a look at the top of the piston with a flashlight or bend-a-light and compare it to the others. If they all appear the same, I wouldnt worry too much about it.
