Re. 996 Oil Pressure High
I just bought a 04 C4S and I was driving it home today (9 hour drive) and I noticed that the oil pressure gauge went up to 5 bar, at one point the Oil Can light appeared and it said failure and then it went away, but the oil pressure stayed at 5 bar, then it would randomly go back to 3.5 and then again go up to 5. Engine temperature was fine, and oil level was fine (looked a bit overfilled, could this be the problem?)
Or would I need to change the oil pressure sensor?
I know the oil was recently changed when Porsche performed an oil filler tube recall, and the car was just PPI'd a few days ago and they said no problems.
Thanks

Mine runs up about 5 when cold, middle range at warm idle, between 4 and 5 when running warm at 3000 RPM, which is probably normal, if that helps.
I'd get it check right away.
I'd get it check right away.

Correct to have a 5 bar reading at operating rpm.... Not a good thing to have it Fluctuating when at a steady rpm...

Post some washed and waxed pictures of your car. At least you'll get lots of welcomes to the forum and other comments.
Put your at least general location in your profile so that others that do porsche runs can invite you. Some guys don't mind dropping by to help with problems or to volunteer their lifts.
Theirs also cars and coffee excuses to get out of the house with the car for a cruise. Make sure you check that thread out since there might be get togethers in your area. Generally its a meet to have a food and drink fix waiting for everyone to be ready and exchange jabber and fun or plan.
Welcome to the forum by the way. Sorry to hear your oil sender is probably bad like happens some times. Good thing is its an easy fix and hopefully got you a better deal on the car. There are findable threads with do it yourself DIY instructions with pictures to make the swap out of the part easy. Good luck with it.
Once again welcome to the forum and enjoy.

Updated location!
At steady RPM (when I start the car and at idle) the oil pressure is around 3 or 3.5 Bar, only when driving around 60mph the pressure stays at 5 bar. Should I be worried about this?

I have had the same worry but by reading oil pressure threads, I accepted that it is normal.
What I wonder now is what is abnormal and what should I watch for? I figure if the pressure is supposed to be 5 and suddenly it drops with no changes in RPM, that should be bad - why, i don't know. Or if the pressure is above 5 then that also calls for some concern, but why? So I guess, what are oil pressure alarms that one should keep an eye out for?

Put an external oil pressure guage of known accuracy on the car and that will tell you if the pressure is really fluctuating. If the pressure is fine, replace the pressure sender. If the pressure still fluctuates, then clean/check/replace the oil pressure relief valve. If the problem still persists, then you have to dig deeper.
