Just had the first drive after having the RS engine mounts -- WOW! Rock-solid feel, esp going over bumps, and meshes well with the upgraded suspension (PSS9/GT-3 sways/links).
Well worth the $400 for the parts from Suncoast and $144 labor charge from my independent.
Stock hydro-elastic mounts had a bit of normal wear but did the change for the upgrade rather than out of any necessity.

I don't see why all the cars don't use a stiffer non hydrolic engine mount. Old tricks drag racing used to be chaining the engine down or bolts to lock the mount down. Nothing worse than an engine slamming into the hood flopping around getting crooked under the hood.

Do these solid mounts increase noise or increase stress on engine or tranny?
Sounds like dumb question, but trying to figure out why they aren't that way from the factory.

The RS mounts shouldn't stress the rest of the drivetrain, whereas more power plus solid mounts might.
The reason they don't come that way from the factory is that the majority of people who bought these things new wouldn't have tolerated it. What constitutes minimal vibration to you and me would have seemed positively agricultural to the average Beverly Hills lawyer or Hamptons trophy wife. They're the same people who find sharper throttle response "jumpy" or strong brakes with stainless steel lines "grabby". This is marketing, not engineering, and the new generation of 'smart' motor mounts are an attempt to solve the dilemma.

Thanks for the post. I've always wondered why there is never any chatter about performance motor mounts for the 996. Back in the day I installed solid mounts in my 911 and it was a revelation.
I suppose we're only now getting to the point where motor mounts are starting to wear out on these cars. Mine are still fine I think, but when it does come time to replace them then I will *absolutely* look at a sports upgrade.
Looking forward to it so much I might even do it sooner than later.

Gives a very solid ingot-like feel, the best way I can describe it is that the car feels more like a solid block of metal than multiple sparts screwed together.

I was looking at this. They are less expensive. Anyone tried rennline stuff?

I went with the factory RS mounts for the extra $150 -- can't go wrong with The Real Thing.

I use Wevo's semi solid motor mounts. Same price as the RS's....

Those Wevo's look good to.
I already had to replace my transmission mount. Maybe these will be next. Price is pretty cheap regardless of OEM or not.

Which brings up another issue.... Solid mounts can set off your knock sensors which in turn will pull timing. Cup cars use solid mounts but they don't have knock sensors. Street cars do which is why I use the semi-solid mounts. YMMV.....
