Default CCW sp18's, what's wrong? X-post

X-post with wheel & tire forum for greater visibility

Hi everyone,
From all the great reviews of ccw, I decided to buy some sp18's(shotpeened anodized) for my 02 c4s. I was told that they'd be around 22 pounds for the rear(18 x 11) and 20(18 x 8.5) for the front. Of course, give or take .5 as they said it wasn't set in stone. I just got them today and the rears are 24.4 and 25. They're not even the same weight! fronts are 22.

So a few questions: Should I be worried about the discrepancy in the rear wheel weight? I bought these mainly as track wheels, thinking I'd get a light but strong wheel. These are definitely not light, and the weight mismatch worries me. I'm wondering if I should have gone with the oz alleggeritta for half the price. CCW's closed now, but I'm calling them first thing in the morning. Does anyone know what their return policy is?

Thanks,
Varun

I've heard nothing but great things about the CCW folks. Call them and I am sure they will make it right.

Well, John was really nice about it. They're going back tomorrow. It's too bad though, if these wheels were lighter & didn't have this weird weight problem, they'd be great I'm sure.

Track guys don't use the SP series. We use the Corsair series (C10 or C14) or the 3-piece "Classics".

C10 is lighter than C14. Should be a couple lbs less than the SP. A little heavier than some other brands, but really, really strong.

I told john I wanted c10's when I ordered, but he said that the sp series would be the same weight.... apparently not. Anyway, I just ordered OZ alleggeritas from Damon at tire rack. I know they lack in strength, but they seem to be holding up well for other members.

Your fronts and rears will be different weights regardless of brand, since they are different sized wheels. Nothing to worry about.

One rear is 24 pounds. the other rear is 25. I reweighed them, it's actually a full pound of difference.

My bad - just re-read your post as the numbers weren't jiving with my thinking - then realized you said the REARS weren't even the same weight. Sorry for my misread - getting late - was trying to help. Cheers.

No worries! It's just so bizarre, even the guys at ccw are stumped.

Curious why if CCW took them back you didn't go with say the C10?

Couple of reasons. I didn't want to wait another 3+ weeks for them to make the C10's. I ordered the OZ's yesterday, and they're coming today. Talk about good service! Also the OZ's are lighter and are half the price.
